Owl City is a poor man's The Postal Service.

Kendrick is doing what Kanye thinks he's doing.

 

Owl City and The Postal Service are about as different as two bands in the same genre can be. The only similar thing is the way Benjamin Gibbard sung on Give Up, and Adam Young's voice, which even then, they're more similar in octave than actual tone.

I don't listen to rap, but when friends play it, I definitely Kendrick is a significantly better writer than Kanye. So I'll give you that one. haha

 

From what I've heard which admittedly isn't much Owl City does sound a lot like a weaker version of The Postal Service.

I don't think Kanye and Kendrick are trying to do similar things at all.

Yeah, I used to be pretty into Owl City, and still own all but his latest album. His earliest stuff was maybe a little Postal Service esque, but he moved on from that pretty quickly. He's more of an atmosphere synth pop, while Postal Service is more like indie synth pop. I've probably listened to both bands an equal amount.

 

Yeah I've probably only really heard a few of his early singles which sounded kind of like "Such Great Heights" rip offs to me. The Postal Service album is one of my all time favourites though.

 

Early single, yeah, I can see that. Also, same. I have this giant 3xlp of Give Up and it's my favorite thing I own probably.

 

Oh, shit, this last page jogged my memory. Here's one: I absolutely can't stand The Postal Service's Give Up. Never liked that album even a little bit.

Don't know how that one slipped my mind.

it's like the best of the bad Eminem records. but it's infinitely less enjoyable SS or MM LP

 

I think it's the worst of the great Eminem albums but it's light years ahead of everything that came after, haha.
