Has this guy not come back to the band that actually needs him yet?

    Nope.

Probably not for a few more years. Maybe they'll do a "farewell" album.

I know you can find them on youtube if you're still looking.

Yeah, starting to get a little fed up of the hiatus now.

Need something (new music, full tour) in the next 12 months or I'm not sure it's ever going to happen.

I'm not giving up hope yet. If we get nothing by the end of next year, then I'll probably start worrying.

I just hate how it's been radio silence since Matt joined blink. It would be nice if they just let fans know they're all off doing their own things and when the time is right they will come back and put out another album/tour. Saying nothing, in my opinion, is the worst thing they're doing because it's just leading to fans making assumptions. On the flip side perhaps the band simply doesn't know what the future holds but it definitely seems like Matt is all in with blink right now.

I think we'll see them again next year

It's not that they're not saying anything it's that people aren't listening. Matt and Derek have said repeatedly that the band isn't broken up. People aren't satisfied with that because they want specifics and unfortunately on that front, they clearly don't have a timeline. The only accurate assumption is that the band is on the back burner as far as Matt is concerned. But with Mark confirming today that after these last few dates in the next couple of days Blink is going "off cycle," hopefully Trio will be able to put something together. I know Mark is keen about recording later in the year but who knows what could happen. Personally though, I'm not holding my breath. If anything happens it will be a pleasant surprise.

If Trio knew what they were doing, I think they'd say what they were doing.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I'm afraid that this is exactly what is going to happen. :(

Going "off cycle" for the California record doesn't mean they won't begin the next record in the very near future.

  12. I mean, Alk3 has at least that one LA show lined up. Maybe they'll announce something at that show, if not before then. I'd rather have a new Alk3 album than a Blink one right now, and Blink-182 is my favorite band... haha.

They need to record. Blink can wait.

If they plan on using Feldmann again and are just going to make California Part 2 then yes I agree. If blink is serious about going in different directions and pushing themselves ala the Untitled album then Alkaline Trio can wait.

  15. I feel like the Untitled Blink album was a flash in the pan for them. All 3 of them were at their peak, and most of the magic of that album had to do with Tom and Jerry Finn, I think. Skiba definitely has the ability to make something Untitled related, but he'd have to really take the reins from Mark, and I really cannot see that happening.

Expectations for the next Blink album are pretty low right now. However, expectations for Alkaline Trios next album are extremely high.

I'm really curious if Matt's time in blink will change his songwriting at all

I'm guessing no, just because he's had so many different projects he's been involved in before.

We talk too much / We talk in circles

I don't see Blink wasting any time since so much of the last decade was wasted by Tom. They're not getting any younger, and Mark's top priority has always been Blink. His other interests were a byproduct of Tom not prioritizing Blink. Plus, Matt has now experienced the good life. So, I don't blame him for not rushing back to Alkaline.

Oh I completely agree with you about Untitled being a flash in the pan. I was just talking about changing the direction of their next album to something similar to Untitled as far as heavy guitar tones, darker lyrics, etc. I hope now that Mark, Matt and Travis have been a real band for the last 2 plus years and are now more familiar with each other there will be more room to experiment and not put out another safe album like California.

  21. I expect it to come out more like the deluxe disc of California than anything else in their discography, especially if Feldmann produces again.

  22. Whatever they do next, I reeeeeally want Matt to stop writing guitar parts to mimic Tom, and just write as Matt Skiba. If we get one more "duh nuh NUH dun nuh NUH" intro riff, I'll cry.

I mean Mark did say he wanted the next album to be more like Untitled. Mark's been a producer so I don't see him not getting his way, Feldmann will just have to get on board or beat it

And the blink sound is really the outlier in terms of sound - his work with the Sekrets and Heavens still sounds very Trio like.

I'd like to hear more influence from that sound in the next blink record - on California it felt more like "and playing the part of 2000s era Tom Delonge is Matt Skiba"

Yup. This why is Feldman should not produce.
