A friend and i were talking about what horror movies are classic to us and it was interesting to see the differences. Mine was more the typical Halloween, Nightmare on elm st, evil dead, Scream, etc cause thats what i grew up with where hers were basically early/mid 00s remakes cause I'm guessing that's when she started watching scary movies. Then we got into a discussion about movies being "scary" because to her a good scary movie needs to scare her, but for me that's not a requirement? I think a movie can have creepy atmosphere or a great story/direction, use certain elements well, or just be entertaining without necessarily making me feel scared. Tbh I would say most horror movies don't "scare" me but its still my fave genre because I just appreciate the genre idk. So watching movies with her can be frustrating cause I think she dismisses a lot of good movies. meh

  5. For the last couple years, my girlfriend and I watch a different Christmas movie or special every day of December, leading up to Christmas Day.

We've been talking about doing the same thing this year, but also do scary movies in October leading up to Halloween, of course.

I've started making a list on my phone of movie ideas:

    Evil Dead (originals and remake)
    You're Next
    The Visit
It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
    The Invitation
    It Follows
    Nightmare Before Christmas
    Hocus Pocus
    The Shining
    The Exorcist
    It
    Quarantine
    Anguish
    Misery
    Scream
    The Blair Witch Project
    Zodiac
    Se7en
    28 Days Later
    Sleepy Hollow

That's all I've put on the list so far, as that's what all came to mind first. I'm certain I'll remember a lot more, and then we will trim it down and pick what we actually want to watch.

I can get down with that list. Some of them would definitely be on mine.

Four movies that are always on my list in October: Halloween (Rob Zombie version), Trick 'r Treat, House of 1000 Corpses, and believe it or not.....House of Wax remake haha.

  7. I've never seen any of those you mentioned. Ha

Omg it just occurred to me.

The change of date from the original IT and first adaptation to 1989 isn't to try and appeal to the tastes of millenials or be more relatable to the moviegoing demographic of today at all.

Because pennywise comes back every 27 years, they moved the date from the original IT to take place in 1989 because he reemerges in 2016 as the orange, buffoonish clown knows as Donald trump.

Those trump/pennywise memes weren't just memes. They were a part of a larger prophecy.

It was great. Such a perfect balance of the horrors of really life and the supernatural. While all the weight/expectation was on Skarsgard for the Pennywise performance, those kids made the movie. Great acting from a talented young group. I think we all agree that for a horror movie to be truly effective, you have to care about the characters and the kids executed the script to perfection. Lots of fun.

i can relate to this a lot. i think that there is quite a large difference between being a fan of the horror genre and "scary movies". i have so many friends who ONLY care about being scared when they watch something, so when i present something to them like Anti Birth or Raw, they're like "that wasn't scary, it was just weird/dumb/insert any other negative adjective here". it's already been discussed, but the witch is such a perfect example of a brilliant, dark, atmospheric horror movie making people scratch their heads when they went to see it because it didn't satisfy all the normal requirements of something that would scare them. but what it did do was so much better anyway. idk i have a lot of dumb friends that i love to death that won't ever align with this or see movies as more than just jump scares, but that's fine because it's not gonna stop me. its all the industry's fault anyway for churning out cheap shit for years that kiddos ate up because they could go to the theater and watch it with their friends and girlfriends and boyfriends and yell out during scary moments to get a laugh from the audience to boost their weak pathetic minds that are starving for attention.

That Death Day movie trailer we got before It looks sooooo bad. I can't believe they actually show story beats ripped straight from Groundhog Day, and Edge of Tomorrow IN THE TRAILER. Like hey guys check out this concept, NOW don't you see? She's reliving the same day! Whoaaaa

Haha that trailer got more of a reaction from my audience than any other. Seemed like the whole theater was laughing or had something to say afterwards

i maintain that the film in general doesn't get the respect it deserves, it has nowhere near the recognition that Halloween or Texas Chain Saw Massacre do despite the fact that it's arguably just as influential and groundbreaking as they were (especially given it allegedly was the inspiration for Halloween, predating it as a slasher by several years). there's a great feminist subtext, too.

Happy Death day looks like a lot of fun. People in my theater loved the trailer but laughed at the title reveal. Not mad at them for it.
