People are thrown off by the "Fish won't judge you by your faults" bit, but I actually like the weird vocal. Talking about dark thoughts or that voice in the back of your head, it makes sense for that line to be in a weird voice. I can hear how it might sound goofy to some. Maybe that was done to offset how morbid it is and prevent it from hitting too close to home without any relief.
