So tell me something awesome Supporter

People acting like this only happens over pop punk as if the Hip Hop Thread didn't have plenty of Xxxtentacion discussion on how horrible he is and as if the Swans thread never existed

Can't wait for you to find these discussions and start defending those people because the pop punk abusers are even worse

I feel out of the loop. I just heard of this guy the other day, but have no idea what he's done to make him horrible. This is why I like these boards, so I can stay somewhat informed haha.

Worse that the infamous /r/poppunk I hear about?

I was on the Xxxtentacion Reddit thread early this morning before a lot of comments and there were people still defending him. Reddit is generally just a shitshow regarding anything about abuse or violence towards women.

The only reason there are 20 pages in this thread is because people don't read and make the same arguments on every page about how punk is so maligned.

  8. Kayla did you know it's just a song tho? And rap is worse? Jeeeeeeez!

lots of bluster from a lot of people who never think about OR mention rap until it's time to defend bad pop punk lyrics.

  10. It's like goddamnclockwork. I guarantee there will be a concern troll in a future post about a rap artist that brings up this thread, it's a sure thing that it happens. Gotcha!

Oh, and also Brand New and Blink182 also wrote bad songs, and you like them, so ... gotcha x 2!!

Curious to how you feel in other entertainment mediums. Can't imagine you would be a fan of comedians like Bill Burr. Do you limit watch movie/comedy too based on the content

and hip hip artists should be called out for the misogyny! but there's also the industry taking advantage of poor, underprivileged black kids and helping feed into the stereotypical image of "gangster rap" that's been around for a while. this doesn't excuse artists for misogynystic lyrics but there's more to it. it's like blaming young poor black teens for gang violence, there's more about it.

if the comedy does jokes at underprivileged group's expense, yes. that's fucked up. there's a way to make jokes and not use it to shine a negative light upon groups that already have to struggle

You act like it's a bad thing for people to not want to engage with "entertainment" that isn't fun for them. I don't think it's fun for women to be called a whore in a song. I don't find it "fun" to listen to stand up comedians who demean women. The whole point is that it's entertaining. Everyone has their own personal line. You seem really upset that yours is different than the other people in this thread.

  17. I don't find Bill Burr funny. I like smart comedy that punches up, not down, and if the content pushes the line in that way, I have little problem with it. But I've still gotta find it funny. (Comedy is a very different medium with different artistic goals, and my taste in what I find funny is pretty specific.)

And yeah, I don't pay for some movies because of the people who made it. Sean Penn, Woody Allen ... haven't paid for a movie they've made in years.

I just want to know how we always arrive at the same straw-grasping "but what about all of these things that are also -insert demeaning/insensitive thing here-" as if it makes any sense within the conversation. No, people don't like things, across mediums, that they find offensive.

  20. The idea is: If I can find a contradiction in your personal feelings, then you are a hypocrite, therefore, your thoughts on this specific thing I can dismiss and not actually be forced to face, or critically examine, myself. It's so transparent.

I have a lot of normal friends it's more of probably being obvlivious and not giving examples like the song much thought other than being terrible. Like I said before if I didn't come to this site I wouldn't know people would have such issues with songs like this. I probably wouldn't think twice. Maybe it's just normalized to not think much about it. I don't know
