Again, I'll reiterate that if you had taken the time to read through the thread before commenting, you would see that many if not all of the users in here are not "ok" with "50%" of the artists we like having misogynistic pasts. If an artist I like has had trouble with misogyny in the past (Brand New is in my top 3 bands) I will immediately acknowledge and recognize that. To suggest that we are doing otherwise is not fair to those of us who spent time yesterday, and have spent plenty of time before that, talking about the sexism in the music we listen to. It also forces you to lose a lot of credibility in my eyes, because it shows me that you are apparently unwilling to engage with the rest of the thread before making these blind accusations.

 

I know this is a long thread, but there should be some sort of test to prove you've read it before you comment. Roughly every five pages or so, someone comes up with a 'new' argument about 'classic songs' that were mentioned and argued five pages before. It's all the same. That isn't an original thought.

It is so frustrating to me that multiple people (not just createdaccount4this) are popping in to share their two cents without bothering to read the thread. Of all the threads you should read before posting in, this is a pretty damn important one.

I did read it, but what i said wasn't really about that and then it shifted over and now there's other ways to read what I was saying, which are most likely more easy to do than to see it from where it originally started.. OBVIOUSLY you are correct. Please understand this, obviously you are CORRECT in what YOU are SAYING. Ok? What you're saying is fantastic.

Please, I understand that you're frustrated by this and that's your pov, but that's not me.

The only point I actually have is that I want people to apply the same measures to old acts, new acts, music you like and music you hate. I'll stop confusing the message by not talking to you.

Yeah probably his most overtly misogynistic lyrics. He tried to explain at the time how in the context of the album, that's a song from the "supervillain's perspective" which... idk man. But at the end of the day, you're still asking a room full of kids to shout along with things like "You gave your love to me and now you are my property" and "I'll sell you into bondage. Baby, I own you."

Will be interesting to see how/if he addresses this on the upcoming S/T tour.

 

That's fair, a bulk of this thread has been saying that exact thing. This would have been communicated a lot more easily without a lot of other stuff in the way of what is a simple message.

 

Then I guess my issue is that I have no idea what you're trying to say. If you had a point, it has been lost in the chaos of the thread. Clearly, my interpretation of your message is very different from your own, so some clear, concise clarification would be nice.

Yeah, that's been the case on this board for what, 14 years? Can't see that changing. Remember that, what was his name, playradioplay? not go radio, the one dude who was like a b-rate hellogoodbye who blew up on purevolume and wanted to be a shoegaze artist. Him and Jason started arguing about what genre blink 182's Untitled was and 15 pages later he was banned. :D

 

I didn't see that post before I hit reply on mine. I actually agree with you! And I think a lot of people here would as well. I don't really know how or why this devolved into the mess it did, because you are absolutely right. I'm still going to be insistent, though, that everyone I've personally seen HAS been doing that. That's why I became so defensive. I didn't like the insinuation that we haven't been doing that exact thing: acknowledging the problematic nature of other artists.

 

Every time I see ImAMetaphor's username, in my head I sing it to the tune of Brand New's "I Am A Nightmare".

 

I insulted one of those guys on the old board, there were so many and they all faded so quick so I feel justified.

 

Jason saying "also the song sucks" and all of that stuff is an issue. It influences people to lynchmob new artists and stuff. Awesome on you for getting it and thinking clearly, but language like that provokes a lot of people to say stuff like "this wouldn't happen with my bands!", I've even seen it prompt stuff like "yeah these ***s can't get girls anyways!"

He can write what he wishes, but it's so easy to omit something like that. Just please. Is it really worth it? It just sets a bad tone.

It's not the first time he's done it, but i havn't said anything about this ever in the past.
Obviously, I'm not taking anything away from individuals like you.
