I'm laughing so hard at "on the way" for some reason. But didn't you hear? He got YFW delivered and when he listened it really brought out the intricacies

Kinda like a monolith but not really. This does make me want to watch 2001 soon tho. Because then I finally want to watch its sequel 2010

Yeah, I've watched 2001 so many times but just haven't had it in me to watch 2010. I hear it's ok. Do you know if they try to capture a Kubrickian feel in 2010 or is it just its own thing?

I mean the director is Peter Hyams known for such classics as End of Days, Timecop and Sudden Death (such a fun movie) but tbh I don't care he can be a fun director just like Paul Verhoven can be. Paul is better but yeah the cast of 2010 is decent but it's definitely not anything like 2001. Kubrick disowned it and wanted nothing to do with it, so I would say it is it's own thing. The funny thing is Arthur C Clarke actually wrote a third book too but it has yet to be made into a movie.

I know 2001 the film was written in conjunction with the book, but I honestly just love the ambiguity that the film leaves you with. I'm not sure I want a conclusion.

Yeah Denis is awesome. Assuming you are talking about Dune? You should see his early movies. Incendies especially hits hard and he uses You and who's army by Radiohead perfectly in it. I still think that one is his best movie but i can't wait to see the new Blade Runner

Pretty much why I never watched the sequel but I still kinda want to see it. Curiosity gets the best of me

Incecdies is the only one by him that I haven't seen. But yeah with Blade Runner and Dune, he might as well do another. I guess I'd do Arrival > Enemy > Sicario > Prisoners, but I haven't seen Prisoners in a long time.

Edit: oh, yeah I was saying that he should do the third in the Arthur C Clarke trilogy

Im generally quite critical and picky of movies. Having taken a few courses in college and being an avid film watcher since like 10, I like to think I have a relatively decent taste in movies across most genre's (or at least the ones I watch).

Since we have a brief moment of film talk, I just wanna interject and say I saw IT tonight and was pleasantly surprised at how well it was done. I think it may top the original adaptation, and recommend it to any/all that are fans of the horror genre. If you're like me and enjoy 1 out of every 25 horror movies each year, this is the one.

The sci fi i'm most looking forward to is actually James Gray's next movie. Such an underrated director. I remember reading on it and it sounds like it will be right up my alley.

I actually like 2010. It's not great, but it's fun. And Denis is tied for my favorite current director

Good to know. Didn't feel too long? Was the ending a letdown or decent enough? Heard it kinda sucks but it sucked before so

What is the other one? I love that you are so into movies too. It's funny because today is the first day of TIFF. I went 5 years in a row took a break and went last year again but won't be going this year. Love cinema and my criterion collection just as much as my vinyl collection

I loved it. It's much slower than the trailers let on, or than the subject matter or book would let on. But I loved it. Robert Pattinson is terrific in it as is Charlie Hunnam. And Sienna Miller is excellent. If you like James Gray you'll love it

I think there's a part of the movie where you'll think it's over and it's not even close. This movie dropped some things the original adaptation had, but also pulled more from the novel. The practical effects, including the fact that Bill Skaarsgard makes his fucking eyes deviate himself are sooo creepy. The kids seem genuinely in danger. The dialogue is dated and done well, very much fits the 80's. The child actors couldn't have been picked better. The comedic relief parts are tastefully done and inserted so the movie doesn't come across overwhelming cause let me tell you, Pennywise is relentless in this version. I was happy with the ending, what was the gripe you heard about it?

I want to go to TIFF so bad! I usually go to Sundance but haven't for the past two years! Haha yeah I love movies so much!

I'd probably say it's Jeff Nichols. I know some people didn't like Midnight Special, but I did. And Take Shelter is one of my favorite movies ever. I just love his style
