"A Toast to Future Kids" IS a jam, I agree

I'm surprised at how popular some of this stuff still is, almost 10 years later. Warner Bros just bought the label with Jonny Craig and Attila and all that shit

I used to LOVE PTV. They were how my middle school best friend and I bonded.

chiodos was my favorite band for quite some time, ive revisited some of their stuff and alls well that ends well is pretty much unlistenable, bone palace has some decent moments, and illuminaudio is the best thing they ever did, never bothered to hear the last one.

totally backing the emarosa love, relativity holds up really well. also kurt dgd is so much better than jonny dgd

My gut reaction was to think this is crazy, but it's really not.

I haven't listened to an album of theirs since Simple Math. I remember I bought that and Goblin on the same day of release, listened once to both, and never touched them again haha

I have so much knowledge about like Chiodos era scenecore that is useless now. The singers were so interchangeable back then, really the main factor for success was the frontman and the rest who cares, and most of those guys who could lead a band were total shitbags. I guess Vic has always been pretty chill tho? But they took years to really get big.

I'm so removed from it now, no idea which bands are still going or what the new trends are.

those last 2 pages were a fun read; i love(d) that sound so much. it wasn't until i started to actually read the forums on AP years later that i realized those weren't everyone's favorites at the time haha. on the topic of a skylit drive their best was definitely the first EP; Hey Nightmare, Where'd You Get Them Teeth? and A Reason For Broken Wings are incredible songs.

I think the problem with that whole scene is it all aged so badly. Like, you can hear some early 2000's pop punk and most of it doesn't sound old, but five years later and all that high pitched singing post-hardcore sounds incredibly dated.

Chiodos will never sound dated, sorry h8rs try again

Jk though it's definitely true. I mean these bands appeal to a younger crowd that mostly outgrows them by the time they get to their late teens, early 20s. That's why so many bands blow up and disappear in such a short amount of time. The only bands like this I really listen to anymore are Chiodos, Pierce the Veil, and maybe the occasional Silverstein album but I wouldn't even fully lump them in with the rest of these bands. Unless I'm specifically diving down the rabbit hole for nostalgic purposes like this morning. (and I have a weird thing with Alesana where like once a year I have an urge to listen to them for a night or two.)

tilting the hourglass was one of my most listened to songs for a long time; so damn good

also i don't think a song sounding "dated" means it necessarily not that good. i mean, society almost defines the greatest songs by how emblematic they were of different times. it always bugs me a bit when people say they "outgrew" an entire genre. it implies a linearity to music taste that bothers me as somebody who would love to hear a new band put out good 2006 post-hardcore that doesn't rely on nostalgia.

"Un'Aria" and "Un'Aria Ancora" are pretty crucial to that album, and really cool tracks regardless of Craigs other bands/musical output.... in my opinion at least

Eh i mean I see where you're coming from. I wouldn't want to write a new band off just because they did this style and I decided I didn't like it, but a band would have to be just really crazy good for this genre to have anything to offer anymore. But I say I outgrew it, because that's what happened. It's just that the sound has been done to death, and there have been several waves of it that don't really change anything from the last wave, so it just becomes music that is very derivative of itself. But I do agree "dated" doesn't mean not good.

i once made a web chart for bands in that scene that had overlapping members, it was a mess

cinematic sunrise ep is the best record to have craig owens as a frontman
