Another huge difference between Tom and blink doing joke songs is that blink actually released a really good song along with it. Tom released as part of an already pretty bad EP, so he didn't really earn the right to make the joke.

 

From listening to the interview it sounds like the song was also kind of a prank on Travis too.

(For anyone who missed it, Mark says they asked Travis to just play like 8 bars or something without knowing what it was for and then he stopped and shouted "Is that really it?" and it's kept at the end of the song).

 

No offense....probably some offense, but this is probably one of the most ridiculous arguments I've ever seen.

 

It made certain users uncomfortable. Their past "joke" songs have made people uncomfortable and in some cases offended. Just because you think it's "fun" or "funny" doesn't mean it is for everyone. The message of it clearly doesn't effect you.

but we will all keep singing along to "fuck a dog" and "family reunion" at shows? that's fine, i guess? it just boils down to "different strokes for different folks" i suppose.

Now you see, if we're talking about their old joke songs, then yea, I can understand people being offended, but I don't see how anyone can actually be offended by a song like Built A Pool.

"Family Reunion" is kind of a classic and probably the biggest crowd pleaser I've ever seen at a concert in my life.
