yea I'm aware of the reference, my Fiancee is obsessed with true crime and really enjoyed that part, but for some reason I just am not hearing the lyric that way. Probably bad ears

Second guitar coming in @ 1:26 on Can't Get It Out was most endearing to hear on first listen, and still is. That precise moment was when I knew this album was a winner.

 

I'm pretty sure the secret ending in Out of Mana is a top 5 highlight in the album. It's super intimate, a really calm but working melody and his lyrical choice warms my soul.

I think it's the way he's pronouncing it that's throwing you (and me) off. It sounds more like "DOH-ner DAH-ter" instead of "DON-ner [edit: or DAWN-ner] DAW-ter"

 

I need to get my good headphones out for this and confirm, like this needs to happen tonight its very important

I mean I'm still not 100% convinced it's "Donner daughter" (same with "toting around my own crown" vs "cloud," and "break and create us" vs "great game creator") but that's how I'm trying to make "Donner daughter" make sense to me.

 

Come to think of it I've forgotten how jarring the whistling was at first listen, too. You're thinking at the end of Lit Me Up that, maybe, here is You Stole resurrected from Daisy and that's what is to be expected...but then this happy, polarizing bluebird tone slaps that line of thought outta you real quickly.

Watching friend's IRL reactions to the two songs for the first time has been fun.

My thoughts the first time: "This first song [Lit Me Up] sounds pretty cool, could be a return to TDAG-era stuff...*next track* oh an acoustic-led song, cool...wait why is there whistling on a Brand New album? what is this album? this is amazing and strange and I like it"

 

I'm pretty sure the first time I listened to Can't Get It Out my face contorted from overstimulation.

 

If Brand New were to release a single (albeit however unlikely) from the album, what song would it be?

Can't Get it Out seems like the most logical choice (my fave song).

 

That's the one that's been getting plays on AltNation and such, and it's their "Artist's Pick" on Spotify. It seems like that's the "unofficial" single, and is the best contender for becoming an "official" single if they choose to do that.
