Not everyone can afford college. I know plenty of smart people who don't have degrees that are smarter than me and I do have one. You make it sound impossible and quite frankly like a jackass.

Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like I was saying "if you don't go to college then you aren't smart" , but can see how it looks that way.

What I was trying to convey was a good number of uneducated Trump supporters who think (and were basically told by Trump) if we just deport all the "illegals" suddenly their lot in life is going to magically improve - and that's not the case. Apple isn't going to say "whelp, there goes our hiring pool of illegals, hey - see any promising candidates at that Trump rally last week in Arkansas?"

These days a college degree is barely enough to even get you in the door. My buddy just posted the other day he say a job listing requesting a college degree (advanced degree preferred!), 4+ years of relevant experience - for a job paying $14 an hour.

There are plenty of educated people who still believe in him, many. It doesn't matter if you have a degree and can do advanced math equations if you believe in racist politics. There are people with masters degrees that still believe White skeletons are superior to POC ones. You can buy into big schools and buy degrees easily.

I think we are seeing those ground down and the conditions for such improvement are eroding. To use the examples I referred to, we are quickly approaching conditions where life will be unsustainable and, in the mean time, inequality has created a situation in which tens of thousands of Americans are dying from addiction. So, to answer your question, capitalist expansion has lead to some improvements, but I would argue this is in spite of its imperatives and we've seen a rollback to such an extent that the for example, America is in near to last place in the developed world in terms of quality of life.

Missing out. Spicy chicken sandwich is delicious. I only eat there when I can get it free or stupid cheap so they don't profit off me. Also steal all the ketchup I can

I've had chick-fil-a once in my life and that was last year at an airport on my way to NOLA. I ate it very begrudgingly (literally every other breakfast place was closed at the time) and then I got sick and remained so the entire week, effectively ruining my trip.

    fuck that place.

I think it's important to keep in mind the absolute vs. relative frame of reference when making this argument. Sure, income has increased mightily over this period of time, but the majority of it is channeled to the upper classes. From a Marxist perspective, it's the same reason why wages can go up and make life better in the form of increased funds for healthcare, education, happiness, etc., even though the value of one's labor power is going down as higher percentages of newly created wealth are being concentrated in the hands of the people with the least need for that wealth. And of course, in a capitalist society you have to allot at least a portion of societal wealth to the masses so that people can reproduce themselves, otherwise the labor force dies off and the capitalist class dies with it. Improvements in the above indicators are necessary in order to sustain the system.

Piggybacking off of what Dom said as well, over what period of time are the present absolute benefits of capitalist development going to continue to combat extreme poverty and child mortality going to decrease when the Middle East runs out of clean drinking water from climate change? Or when a near permanent stream of climate refugees causes massive economic disruption and political upheaval? Even thinking about the crises of healthcare, student loan debt, housing, etc. in this country, the day is coming when the these kinds of absolute capitalist benefits are going to unravel in a dramatic fashion, if they haven't been already.
