Soco Amaretto Lime Vs. My Nine Rides Shotgun
    - Buh. (My Nine kind of sounds like The Starting Line though, so that's cool.)

Seventy Times 7 Vs. Mix Tape
    - I'm not sure there are any two songs that represent most peoples problems with YFW than these ones, but they're both fun. Seventy Times 7 is more fun though. Mix Tape is endearing, but on Seventy Times 7 you know exactly what he's saying and I respect it. The megaphone effect on the vocals in the bridge kicks ass too. The eventual explosion feels more earned than Mix Tape.

    Failure by Design Vs. Magazines
    - I already gushed about Failure by Design. Magazines and Secondary are pretty interchangeable for me. Catchy, goofy songs, but Failure has some depth to it.

Logan To Government Center Vs. Last Chance to Lose Your Keys
    - Logan is definitely the best love song on the album. Until Science Fiction came out, Logan was probably the happiest song lyrically Brand New has (or Moshi Moshi). When he says "absolutely definitely gone" it hinted at the screams we would get on Deja, and it just has so many fun parts musically. So good.

That's about where I'm at too. But the lyrics are from a throwaway song from a teenage John Nolan, so they're about what I'd expect them to be.

John Nolan literally made a shirt to express his crush for Laetitia Casta, then wore it in the Great Romances of the 20th Century video. That's pretty sad lol.

the only good thing about these rankings is seeing which users think red pilled misogynistic reddior jesse lacey is better than the one who wrote a song fantasizing about his best friend dying in a car crash

I prefer when they play newer stuff but I like the way they make Mix Tape into a jam session when they play it now.

    He's a fanboy, what's wrong with that?

Jesse wrote a song about lusting after Audrey Tatou.

Soco: i love soco so that alone makes this easy but I can honestly say I'd rather listen to dog farts than my nine rides shotgun holy shit do I hate my nine rides shotgun.

Seventy: if we went by live versions mix tape might edge it out, but idk I guess I'll take pointless male violence over pointless misogyny. At the end of the day I can still have a good time with this one because it's so over the top, whereas mix tape is mundane enough that I feel weird singing along to it the way I did last night.

Failure: discovered I like the lead guitar in this and I guess this being basically a "fuck you, I've got nothing song" gets more likes out of me than wanting a girl bc you're bored of magazines or whatever. Masturbation is fine Jesse just chill out. That being said I rly enjoyed the nostalgia I got out of "girl come to me, the only broken hearted loser you'll ever need"

Last Chance to Lose Your Keys: I went back and forth on this, and I like them about the same. Logan is probably even the better song but this song has a really great chorus and "you wouldn't get me" doesn't really compare. I figure Logan will probably win this match up anyway so why not.

Disappointed I missed the first round, but haven't had much time since yesterday afternoon to catch up on my followed threads. Hopefully, I'll be able to make the other brackets work. Here goes nothing:

Soco - This remains one of the best, if not the best, song on the record. Hearing this live never fails to bring me chills, especially when the last part of the song kicks in. It blew my mind when I discovered that the lyrics written in the liner notes were being sung and buried low in the mix for most of the song. For the longest time I thought it was a misprint and that those were the original/demo lyrics.

Mixtape - Originally, I was leaning 70x7, but the outro and the line about wishing he was still her shadow after railing against her give this the advantage. It remains a great song live that sees the band finding joy in it unlike its challenger, which can seem like a chore/obligation.

Failure - The fact that a song written to be filler can still be this catchy is a testament to their writing. Helps that Vin basically took the main riff from Built to Spill's Dystopian Dream Girl. Another song that's elevated in a live setting.

Logan - Last Chance has always been one of my least favorite songs, whereas Logan has been a long-time favorite. The riffage, "woo," descriptive lyrics, and Cure nod are what pulled me in and never let go. Yet again, this track really comes alive when seen performed live.

Soco - One of my favorite songs when I was younger. This isn't really a matchup. Shotgun is flaming garbage I don't know what else to say lol

70x7 - I'm glad John and Jesse worked things out, cause it's weird as hell singing along to a bridge about wishing death upon your best friend, but Jesse says a lot of weird shit on this record. It does give me a rush of nostalgia every time I hear it, and the vocal effect Jesse uses with the bass quietly playing in the background is a really cool moment. I think they've played Mixtape every time I've seen them, and I'm just a little over it at this point I guess.

Failure - Even at 14, I felt weird singing along to Magazines. Failure is the better song.

Logan - Last Chance is cheesy fun, but Logan is one of the best songs from this era. The 'woo' is a great little moment.
