Now imagine another, better rock song in its place ;)

But I understand what you mean.

I think my favorites are still Lit Me Up, Same Logic, 137, and In The Water. Batter Up and Could Never Be Heaven are not close behind. I really vibe with every song, though, and think every song plays a significant role in creating the album experience.

My bottom two are still No Control and Desert, but they continue to grow on me.

I can't really get into anything else by him. I can't really say why, tbh. Age of Adz is it. But I adore the record.

Don't know how anyone could not like Desert, such a good send up of FakeNews and right wing christians.

I love the idea of the guy "hearing voices" nightly telling him the end is coming and don't give up your guns...aka dude's sitting there watching Hannity.

Desert is my second favorite, I don't understand why it doesn't get more love.

Same with Could Never Be Heaven. Both need more love!

People like the speaker in Desert are a little too common in my town for comfort.

It's absolutely better than 451. If nothing else.

451 is a top 3 song on the album.

Yea I feel you on this. It kind of works as an interlude more than a stand alone song. It's pretty chill and moves at a pretty steady pass. Works as a nice bridge before closing the album out with 451 and Batter Up. I also really like the idea someone said many many pages back about it working as a kid's answer to the parent in Desert.

It's definitely not a bad song, just the one that excites me the least. I wouldn't even skip it though.

Chorus sounds like Fall Out Boy

The strange bias in this thread against relatively straightforward pop songs weirds me the hell out. The whole technical is better thing feels extremely juvenile to me. Maybe I'm generalizing but a lot of it comes off that way and I'm not even talking about yfw a little bit.

I agree I just don't see that as a bad thing, but I mean I like Fall Out Boy so I guess that makes sense.

I agree with this. Pop songs are great!

    I haven't heard a FOB album since 2007 so I guess I wouldn't know.

Just in case this is partially related to my comments on No Control, Can't Get It Out is one of my favorites on the album and I'd say that and No Control are the most straightforward.

Def not directed at anyone in particular but I do feel like it's manifesting itself most in the general opinions in here on No Control and CGIO (you actually seem to be one of the few with love for that one but not the other). Just seems like a lot of y'all are looking for something different from songwriting than I am, and it's a little surprising to me based on other corners of the musical internet I've frequented at different times.

perhaps. I like the lyric a lot because it takes a simple sentiment of "I hope you die" and states it in a more detailed, poetic way. and there are several people I know who I would not be upset about if they died in car wrecks. it's venomous, it's a visceral hatred that the song captures well. maybe in the future I won't wish for people to die, when all this anger and sadness inside me finally dissipates for good, no matter how long it takes

Well those are two of my least favorites but Could Never be Heaven and Desert are my two favorites and they feel like pop songs to me. So I guess it just a song by song basis.

I also love both Can't Get It Out and No Control. Those are just two weaker songs on the album to me but still great.

    The entire album is amazing!

What fall out boy song sounds like this? I hear more of a western feel, outlaw type sound for that chorus

    No thank you.

Ill bring out another hipster opinion of mine: I don't like Fall Out Boy.

Also, I should clarify that I have heard singles from their newer albums.

Yea I know you weren't targeting anyone specifically haha I basically just wanted to make sure it was clear that I really love Can't Get It Out. It's probably the song that has the most emotional resonance with me.

Also I feel the need to say on this topic that imo saying straightforward pop songs to describe these is kind of a misnomer. They're straightforward rock songs, and the reason I'm clarifying is that a straightforward rock song is more likely to be a boring song (No Control), whereas a straightforward pop song can still be a lot of fun (new TSwift - don't @ me).

451 is not a Fall Out Boy sound at all.
