Why is it your favorite? Do you honestly connect with those lyrics as a 24 year old?

 

Those are two of their most popular songs, has nothing to do with favorites.

People go to shows expecting the popular songs to be played. That's just a fact of life.

 

Who says you have to connect with lyrics to like a song?

I probably don't connect with any Brand New song lyrically but they are still one of my favorite bands.

 

I'm sorry but I refuse to listen to a forun user named blakebeats to inform me about the facts of life

 

People shouldn't go to a show just for one song or two and get disappointed if they don't play it

 

You shouldn't expect anything beyond see the band. What they choose to play is their choice. You pay for a ticket understanding that you might not see certain songs, if you don't then that's on you.

 

May I ask why you have to relate to music to enjoy it?

 

A band does not owe it to anyone to play a song you want to hear

I still enjoy the album, but relating to art is what draws one back to it.

You don't have to relate to lyrics to ebjoy music, but if the lyrics are awkward/clunky/bad then it's easy to see why somebody might not like Sic Transit. It's not complicated.

 

I agree with this.

Never did I say I would get mad at the band for what they chose to play. But I also have the right to be didsapointed. Like when Linkin Park didn't play Breaking the Habit I was sad but I still had the time of my life so it is what it is.

It's different when your favorites aren't hits. My favorite Brand New song is Jude Law so obviously I'm not going to get upset when they don't play it because I'm not expecting them to play it. But if they don't play Sic Transit or Jesus Christ, that would be weird to me because of how popular those songs are.

 

feeling emotion is what draws one back to it. i dont have to relate to art to feel emotion from it. i cant directly relate to what i hear in rap music but i listen to it more than most genres. theres literally no words in most of the electronic i listen to and i listen to it more than other genres. i barely pay attention to lyrics in metal music and i listen to it by far the most out of any other genre.

Voting to have @Jason Tate write this into the forum code, that every time Neck Deep is mentioned, the site automatically changes it the "shit band" so we don't have to see the name anymore.

I agree with this.

But bands are at least self aware of what the general crowd wants to hear and that's why a lot of bands play a set list full of singles.

 

popularity doesnt mean its good. plus its not like its a rare cut for them to play, they play it at like every show. id be fine with dropping it. honestly all of Deja and YFW could be dropped from the sets and i think the shows would be better for it

 

Yes, popularity may not mean it's good to you. But to the general audience, it does mean it's good. Hence why it became popular.

And news flash, you guys posting on here about Brand New aren't the general audience. In fact, you guys are probably 1% of the audience as we all come from different states and countries and are likely 1-2 people in a crowd of thousands at the show.

And I bet you dang well, that the majority of the crowd at the show would love to see songs like Sic Transit and Jesus Christ.

 

I'd be on board for 'Sic Transit' and 'Jesus' to be dropped from their setlists for quite a few songs from Science Fiction.

 

I think what confuses me is in this thread most people's opinions seem to agree with each other.

In real life, every Brand New fan I've ever met or known all have the same opinions.


Yet these two groups of people have exact opposite opinions.

 

I can't relate to them as an adult in a stable long term relationship anymore, but I still can pretty easily bring myself back to a time when I would have been terrified teen boy haha. Just takes a little imagination.

 

I'm 100% on board for them playing a lot from Science Fiction

But there are definitely a lot of other songs that should get cut before Sic Transit and Jesus Christ
