    Meet me in Montauk

The opening monologue of the IIT tape is fucking awesome. It perfectly sets the mood of the album. It just puts me in a mood and makes me want to watch Fringe/X-Files/Twin Peaks

Ugh, the verses ruin the song for me. I find the chorus enjoyable though

The whole thing just really works for me. I mean I'm sure I'll feel this way about every individual song on this album at one point or another, but no control has just been sticking out to me lately

Was thinking about the lyrics to batter up and I def get a vibe of "acceptance" as it pertains to his depression. Like just accepting that this mental illness is something he's going to have to live with forever and it's never going away and it's best to just learn how to best deal with it instead of hoping for it to go away completely.

Mason from The Republic of Wolves covered "Can't Get it Out". Really like it stripped down like this.

Probably already been mentioned several times in the 400 pages I haven't read, but "Can't Get It Out" sounds almost like a straight up Nirvana tribute to me. Like, put Cobain's voice on it and I'm pretty sure it's an In Utero outtake.

    Sharing this in here too:

I listen to this album like I watch a film.

There are moments that stand out above the rest, but the journey to those moments is just as important as the moments themselves.

It's similar to scenes in The Dark Knight that stand out, but these scenes are only as good as the scenes that precede and proceed it. It's my favorite film of all time, and it is probably cemented there.

I approach albums the same way. I can find enjoyment in albums made up of separate songs, but albums that have each song feel like a cohesive part of the album structure are the albums that have the most staying power in my listening.

You can't remove a song without making the whole a lesser experience. The lowest points of the album still hold immense importance for the overarching experience.

A few examples of albums that do this are The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, Beggars, A Black Mile to the Surface, and now Science Fiction.

There is a heavy dose of Weezer in there too.

Can't get out just sounds like brand new to me, like if you could somehow compact everything they've done as a band together, its brand new. And I love it so much. One of my favorite songs on the album

Yeah, if someone asked me "what does Brand New sound like?" and I had to show them only one song, that would probably be my go to now. Used to be Jesus, but to me CGIO really does encapsulate nearly every era of the band perfectly in a single song.

Lit Me Up is the best album opener by Brand New

I don't understand why any band that has ominous songs, use power chords in slower progressions, or even feedback/power chords all get thrown into the Nirvana pile. Nirvana is great, not the end all be all though and certainly not the first band to ever sound like that. Just the ones to get famous during that time period. Nothing Jesse has ever done vocally reminds me of Kurt.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

What a way to go out tho.. this album is so much better than I thought it would be. I was expecting just a solid catchy alt rock record that I would enjoy, not something that would move me like this.

I think the vocal phrasing of the first verse of no control is the only thing that reminded me of nirvana on the record. Everyone says 137 sounds like a nirvana rip, I don't hear it

Recently introduced a friend to Brand New. The first track he heard was Noro and was like "What the hell is this? I love it." He now has told me he's been spinning SciFi for a week without really knowing anything prior to that album. Can't imagine what that must be like, NOT knowing what Brand New is.

To be honest, the intro to 137 sounds like a Godsmack rip more than Nirvana to me haha.

Edit: It's not really a rip, I only kid. But this is the track it reminded me of for whatever reason when I first heard it.
