I think it's new music, no why is Kevin's most political song, and he was very unhappy after the election. Would expect a very political motivated release.

I don't know if I'd call no why his most political song

    Shut the FFFFFFRESHFISH UP

It's hard to say if he has a "most" political song, but "No Why" is certainly up there with the likes of "No Time Flat," "Private First Class," "Another Bag of Bones," etc.

I'm excited for whatever he does. I imagine this will probably be a compilation of live stuff similar to Matter of Time or an EP, probably not a whole new album.

  4. I don't even think it's the most political song on the album tbh

im thinking of his most pointed political songs....no time flat holds up real well but some of the stuff on bubblegum is incredible too.

Yeah my money is on some acoustic versions. He's been playing most of the record at his recent solo shows, I guess they translate well. His slowed down version of No Why is particularly cool so I'll be happy with a recording of that.

Hopefully we get some bsides though, always keen for fresh material!

    Ditto.

I've seen him in a few different forms (3 piece, full band, & solo). Every form was thoroughly good in its own right.

My favorite version though has been that three piece he was rolling around with right after Bubblegum came out. They did some good electric versions of his best old songs (Ballgame, No Time Flat, & Cotton Crush) and killed the newer stuff.

That three piece version that has the live audiotree sesh at some fest absolutely tore apart Redbird. It's crazy he could get atmosphere out of a setting like that to me

I prefer when he plays solo or as a 4-piece (or more) most. There were a lot of intricacies that I missed in his music when I saw him last year as a three-piece.

I think in a three piece you get to really see him flex his guitar playing, he does some p wild shit. Granted I have only seen him the once as a three piece so lol

See, in my eyes, it kind of limited him because he seemed to stick more to playing power chords.

I don't think that's untrue in terms of his chord progressions but I feel like I was hearing him mix it up on rhythm and lead playing, so he'd do some power chord progression and also add a bunch of melodic flourishes that I thought were cool. But I also haven't seen every iteration of him so if maybe this is the worst way to see him, I'm content in that his worst still blows me away

I feel his guitar playing doesn't get enough props. His acoustic playing his fantastic, the way he can weave melody lines into his fingerpicking, verges on classical playing at times.

Agreed. Think the guitar players he seems to like most are all different kinds of weird enough that it benefited him in that regard a lot.

Yeah, I would say he, as a guitarist, shines most in an acoustic environment. I think that's when he adds more flourishes and switches things up more.

I'd say his finger style stays closer to folk playing, a lot like Elliot smith. He's incredible at it though
