might not be an opion but... i haven't been "on time" for a concert in probably 10 years. On time, aka, get there when doors open. Hell, i'd say most of the time, i've been getting to shows right before the band im going for goes on.

I like to get there when the opener is ending

I always feel like I need to be there for the opening band, firstly what happens if I discover a band live which happens every one in a while, and secondly I feel bad imagining the opener playing to an empty room

I always show up early because I'm afraid of missing a single song

I like Coldplay up to and including X&Y. Loved Viva La Vida when I was 17 but idk if it holds up now. Haven't heard a single song since Mylo Xyloto

I always show up an hour or so before the doors open. I may want merch and also because as @ComedownMachine said I don't want to miss a single song. And as @iCarly Rae Jepsen said I sometimes like the openers and discover a new band.

Also I am only 5'4 and if it ain't seated I gotta get close or Jolly Green Giant asshat WILL be standing in front of me and my view will be the back of heads with a soundtrack.

plenty of time to check out merch on the way out.... and, to add to my 'unpopular comment', in 125 concerts, ive only missed a song for a band i wanted to see once. That's some quality stats.

And for the shows i go to, positioning in the crowd doesn't really matter, as soon as the band starts the moving begins and what once was my spot is now someone elses.

haha and i've come to point in my life where I'm more careless about new bands. I used to! When i was young that was great, but eh. I'm old and lazy.

I've seen some merch tables pack up before the show is over. Sometimes.

As for positioning you are right, but my short ass needs to get close so when it moves I move closer or can hold my spot, not just be moving behind tall people

I get off at work at 4 and then drive a few hours to the show so I tend to get there in the middle of the opener's set. If its a glorious weekend show then I do show up early. I'm short so I wanna be able to see.

Tall people have issues too. I always have people - complete strangers - asking if they can sit on my shoulders. Although that's easy to say no to. When friends come with and wanna sit up there for fucking hours, it's either have shoulder and neck pain for a week or a grouchy friend for a show.

I do not pity you for your height :D You can at least see without obstruction. I can't tell you how many shows in my early concert going Days I spent with my neck at an angle trying to see over some tall dude's head, made worse by putting their friend on their shoulders sometimes. Hurts the neck and still doesn't provide a good view lol.

Haha I do kind of understand. A best friend is 4' 5" so I've witnessed a lot of the issues she has on a daily basis and learned a lot of issues I never even imagined. Wasn't saying tall people have it worse or at the same level, but it's not perfect up here :D

on an ATL show a couple years ago a girl sat on my shoulders during "Dear Maria" and i didn't enjoy a single second of it. she wasn't even overweight or anything so i wonder if i gotta strengthen up or something.

i'm 1,75m (i think that's 5'10'') so it's kinda the middle of the road between being short and being tall. wish i was a bit taller.
