Sometimes I google actors from shows I like and occasionally something like this happens:

This is the girl from The Goldbergs. Apparently she was on the X Factor too.

If everyone but me knew this already, I apologize, haha.

Song isn't strictly country, but really love the vocals on this new Anderson East single:

Reminds me of Jason Isbell with a bit of Brent Cobb. I dig it.

I'd add the new Will Hoge and Steve Moakler albums to that list as well. Also been a lot of great female country albums this year as well. Jade Jackson, Natalie Hemby, Caroline Spence

He has some good songs but every song where he does his talking shtick is terrible

Every time I read a piece from Harvilla on country music, I get the sense that he's a casual follower of the genre at best and doesn't really know what he's talking about. I kind of got that sense here, mostly in the tangent about Miranda Lambert and there being no good songs on the country chart right now. (Not true, for the record.)

I think he's right about Hunt actually having potential, though. For all that I don't really like his style most of the time, there's some pretty vivid lyrical work on that first record. He writes with more nuance than most mainstream artists. But the songs he's released since then are, uh, bad.

I typically enjoy when he write about other genres a bit more so I know what you mean. The songwriting stuff was what I found the most interesting about this article. I don't pay attention much to the charts and just listen to whatever I enjoy haha. I think the Drake comparisons do make sense, too, though. I can definitely see that with the types of songs he's been releasing lately.

I like when he writes about country, just because I like seeing some of those artists represented on there. And he has different views on things than I do, which can be refreshing. Like, last year he mounted a partial defense of Florida Georgia Line that was truly fascinating to read.

He's on point with the songwriting part, too. Like, I loved "Cop Car" before I even knew Hunt wrote it. That's a good mainstream country song.

Yeah, I'll still read his country takes (obviously haha), I just like some of his other writing a little better. If they would just hire me, I could give them all the country takes. I think I read that FGL piece, too.

I'd be down for more of his songs sounding like "Cop Car" for sure. The bro-country thing got old pretty quickly for me and I mostly listen to mainstream stuff. I think that kinda helped push me to check out some of the artists you've recommended to me before.

Sam Hunt is completely worthless and needs to stop. All the garbage imitators dripping from the same shit-clogged pipe that churned out Luke Bryan and Chris Lane need to go away forever. At least Big Machine signed Alex Williams, who just released a really solid record. So that's a start I guess.

And I've never read this guy's stuff before but that whole thing read like someone who is, at best, a casual outside observer pulling nonsense out of thin air. Sam Hunt the future of country music? Give me a break.

Anyway, as far as radio oriented country goes the new Cadillac Three album (which I had no idea was even coming out) is pretty solid so far.

The new Josh Abbott Band album is hit or miss for me, but fuck, this song is perfect.

Yeah, I wasn't too into the new one either but it has it's share of good tracks for sure. That's one of my favorites too.

Still digging this Will Hoge cd. Cold Night in Sante Fe is one of my favorite songs of 2017.

The one song on there I don't really like.

Oh man really? I think for me "Baby's Eyes" is the weakest of the tracks on Anchors.

I mean, it's fine, and his vocals on it are killer. I just kind of feel like he's done songs a lot like that before and done them a lot better. I also kind of feel like having both that and "This Grand Charade" in the first four tracks is a little too much. I would have put one of them later in the tracklist.

I love "Baby's Eyes," though. Such a great Tom Petty vibe on that song. Title track is my favorite, easy.

    Slow down, Quentin Supporter

I probably could have done without Angel's Wings. Switched Seventeen and This Grand Charade, and it would have been damned near perfect. Cold Night is so interesting to me because it does things we don't expect (only using the hook once, not going into a big guitar solo after the build). Just nice variation. Plus his vocals/lyrics on the bridge are wonderful.
