Nothing really compares to hopelessness and raw imagery of The National lyrics. I really like Radiohead but none of their songs have ever really hit me super hard on an emotional level.

 

I think Radiohead are so good that if people tell call them bad I genuinely think they just haven't listened to much of their music. There's not many bands I think that way about.

Also I think they're way better than The National but I understand that a lot of this site loves that band to death, ha.

 

Damn one of the top reasons I love Radiohead is how emotional I get over them

I pretty much feel the opposite, I rarely feel much of anything when listening to The National whereas something like Motion Picture Soundtrack is one of the most affecting songs I've ever heard. I guess it just comes down to what connects with the individual.

 

Years ago I was working late at a coffeeshop one night and wanted something to listen to. I put on Kid A. Maybe it was the caffeine, but it hit me pretty good that night.

 

This is definitely true.

When you say a band like Radiohead is bad you're just wrong. It's not a matter of opinion. It's a false statement.

 

I feel that.

I mean don't get me wrong.. How To Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Exit Music, No surprises DO fuck me up whenever I listen to them.

I hadn't heard that legendary live version of Fake Plastic Trees until a couple weeks ago and nearly cried... so there's that.

 

I haven't heard this legendary live version, haha. Which one is it?

You probably have.
I'm not sure how actually "legendary" it is but I was on a Radiohead kick one day and I saw a bunch of "you need to listen to the glastonbury 03 version if you think this is good" type comments.

 

Radiohead has been regarded as the greatest rock band in the world. The National is the greatest rock band in the world. That's why I compare them.

I can listen to any Radiohead album and enjoy it while I'm listening to it and then remember very little of it the second it ends.

 

I mainly appreciate that Radiohead has been able to do whatever the fuck they want and still find success in both mainstream and underground audiences. I love them so much and they are one of my favorite bands but, much like Brand New, there is a lot of hyperbole that surrounds them. They're better than just "good" though.

 

Lol I was gonna say how Tool fans are the absolute worst and then I realized @JM95 's avatar was AEnima. It wasn't even a dig at you haha. I like Tool, but there are fans of Tool and then there are FANS OF TOOL. I can't explain it but you know what I mean. Them and Dave Matthew's Band have the worst fanbase.

 

Just because they were brought up, The National just bores me.

 

I can honestly understand people saying this. Especially because of Matt's vocals. I didn't like them at all at first. Like Radiohead, it took awhile to get into them.

That's an understandable statement at least. Unlike "Brand New is a good band" or something like that.

 

I've never listened to the The National so I just turned on Boxer and I'm not a fan so far but I feel like if you like this you might like San Fermin???

San Fermin is pretty awesome.

Listen to "Pink Rabbits" and read along with the lyrics. If it don't fuck you up then I just don't know my guy

 

Which is weird, because I normally enjoy that style. But I just feel nothing with them. I just feel like I'm wasting my time.

 

Listening now. So how much of Brand New have you listened to? Cause I was to suggest a song to read along to as well but I'm not sure if you've really delved into their discography and don't like them or if you just haven't given them an honest shot.

They're my fav band! And I was so annoying when I first listened to them lol

 

Berninger has one of the best voices out there. Hearing Bloodbuzz Ohio for the first time is still one of the most staggering music experiences I've ever had.

 

Not sure if you saw this but these kids were playing at a golf fundraiser and Danny Carey happened to be there and caught wind that The Pot was on their setlist and asked if he could play along lol. Super cool.

 

I would choke on the amount of crow I would have to eat. How could I show my face around here again? Haha

For real, I'll get around to it. Maybe I'll listen tonight. Brand New isn't a bad band. I'd be wrong for saying that. It's just fun playing devils advocate around here sometimes because of the massive love fest/no other band matters attitude. I just think they're overrated a bit.

I've tried to get into Deja and TDAG a bunch of times. I'm not sure I even heard Daisy once.

Alot of Jesse's writing gets under my skin a bit. It seems immature? at times and overly emotional for the sake of being overly emotional.
