Were the bombs Obama was hurling at them just blanks or something?

  3. "Read my lips ... no ... new ... taxes."

Running that as an ad was a good idea, even though Dems want more taxes. Trump promised he could come in and do stuff ... he can't. He's not the business genius that can walk on water he promised. He deserves the mud.

It's astounding to me that intelligent, politically literate people here don't understand the difference between trying to attract new voters, and trying to suppress turnout for the other guy.

Especially since the right used that strategy to great success in 2016.

I think pointing out failures can work, if you're not presenting said failures as legitimate in the first place. Either way, if you think this is a "good email", that's fine. It comes off as legitimizing racist politics, but okay, that's the route you can take.

    Apparently, Lindsey Graham doesn't.

No, you guys are right. Racism works in the most literal way possible. My bad.

  11. I think it's a pretty stupid email, but I understand it, and don't think it's as horrific or symbolic as it was presented. Nor do I think it legitimizes racist politics by pointing out they failed. Now, if they said "we will build the wall instead!" — I'd be losing my mind right along with the rest. I just think it's a basic DNC intern email that I get all the time that is basically just a list of sources about something someone said they'd do, and didn't, most of the time mostly made for press in hoping they'll write a "broke promises" story and ending up in my spam folder. I don't think it's indicative of much beside an email.

  12. Maybe the Political Rulebook some of you have been reading is dumb as hell

  13. Maybe. You should jump on a campaign and convince them not to send out the thousands of broken promise emails. Find the polling that shows they don't work, make the argument, and maybe they'll stop. Start local? Doubt it'll work though. I bet the bad direct mail still goes out too ... because it's been shown to work.

  14. The best way for Trump to get out with ego intact is for him to say he won't run in 2020. BUT HE LOVES RUNNING, that's clearly his favorite part, so I don't think it'll happen. But, that said, that is the way he could go with his ego allowing him an out.

I get emails from the Delaware GOP all the time talking about the failures of the Dems in office to do all the things they promised.

Among other emails too, of course. Some of them are funny. I don't know who sold my email to them, but I'm glad they did because it's funny to see some of the stuff they push.

  16. 1/2 the commentary has been that anytime the Dems call something racist it's a win for the GOP and they throw that card around so much it's worthless. I can find a thousand soundbites and emails about how racist a border wall is. But what finally broke through to the news apparently? This email? So weird.

This hits me right in the feels :tear:

They always haven't been like great with politics but they weren't far from NYT in that sense. It's mostly about the music and growing up reading reviews and finding new shows to go to in it. Depressing.

it astounds me that people here don't understand how propaganda works by impressing itself on masses through repetition. given the recurring dem strategy of "listen to this ridiculous thing Trump said, isn't that messed up" has continually not worked and instead further embedded his beliefs into public consciousness, you'd think they'd realize it's actually not effective. and yet...

The problem people find with it isn't rooted in a lack of understanding. That's a fairly condescending approach to take.

not among his base, which is presumably the target audience for opposition emails.

  24. awesome news

  25. After getting thousands, I don't see malice or condescension to a standard "look at what this politician didn't do" emails.
