Ah yes gotta dig beneath surface level nirvana to get those real deep and obscure bands like...pearl jam and Alice In Chains and sound garden

uh in terms of it being an atmospheric, expansive rock album that gets deeper as it goes while still being extremely accessible (i don't like titus and david is a great album but the songs are v narrow and similar imo). plus both albums share a talk talk-esque moment

Compared to Nirvana, they are beneath them in popularity. Nirvana are the band that defined the 90s grunge scene to many people, many who have never heard of the other three.

There's plenty of albums that are expansive and accessible I don't really feel like listing them all

I'll eat a shoe if someone has heard of nirvana and never heard of at least one of the other three

I can't believe that these guys won't want to make - or play at the very least - music together in the future. Getting Sci-Fi out and ending the band in 2018 removes any sort of pressure on their part and they can probably go back to having fun with it and doing whatever. If that somehow ended up with them wanting to make another record I think they would.

For now though I am more than happy with this album. Still pretty much the only thing I've listened to since it dropped.

Maybe it's an age thing. 16 year olds definitely don't know the other three.

Listening to this album from start to finish, I feel like its a road trip journey from the NE and ending in the South where Jesse and fam have allegedly re-located to. Anyone else getting the same vibes? As someone who hasn't really spent anytime in the south, I can just imagine the imagery esp with Desert and 451.

Whoever asked me my favorite lyric on the album.

    I have an answer now:
    "Let's all go play Nagasaki
    We can all get vaporised"

i don't know. I've always thought there aren't enough people my age into rock. when Nirvana is the only 90s band they know, it shows.

I'm not really into sports, but the Avalanche was the team my dad and I went to see a few times growing up.

Uhhhhhh if leaving interscope and being free to do whatever they want didn't remove pressure what makes you think following up their first album in 8 years will remove pressure? This band puts pressure on themselves to be the best they can be no matter what the circumstances. That doesn't mean it isn't fun but that also doesn't mean they wanna do this cycle forever. Let the band hang it up if they want to.

True hopefully the Jets can finally start doing something though. Those poor fans in Winnipeg haven't had much to cheer about since they came back.

Not that this was the argument or discuss (or even needs to be) but it could be argued that Pavement was up there in terms of influential 90's bands in/around that scene.

I hope we still get, at least, a career-spanning live double album, and maybe a collection of demos/b-sides. I also hope we get some side projects. I would love a Jesse Lacey dark power-pop album in the same vein as IAAN.
