    Newbie

I had a really cool moment today with this album...

I was talking to my friend from work (he's 53) and started telling him about this album and a bit about Brand New and their history. I know he's a big music buff and appreciates a wide range of genres so I figured I would play him something off the album. I played 137 for him and he was just blown away. The moment the big guitar solo came in he just had this huge smile on his face. He said it made him think about Pink Floyd, which I hadn't thought of until he said so, which I think is a cool reference. Lets just say there is one more fan of Brand New in the world today than there was yesterday.

God I love music, and specifically this band!

Lit Me Up us my favorite so far. It might be thier best opener. And that really means something because Sowing Season is still one of my favorite Brand New songs.

Great opener for sure. Hard to beat sowing season in my book though, time will tell.

Sowing season is a great opening track for sure. I remember sitting in my car and my mind was blown out the sunroof. They do have great opening tracks

I've always felt that John and Jesse have similarities in their vocals, you can really hear it there

Lit Me Up might not be a top half of album song for me which is really just a way of saying this album is fucking STACKED

Man, the transition into the chorus of Waste is really smooth and beautiful. That short moment with the strings is actually one of my favorite moments on the entire record.

I'm listening to this at work, thinking to myself "Did I have a set album of the year yet?" I hear the thump of this album pushing anything I had in mind out of the way. We'll see how this goes

This literally had to be my album of the year, I can't imagine anything toppling this.

This was an unforeseen asteroid for me. I was thinking about the Afghan Whigs and some other good ones and this came along and shook things up a bit. I'm okay with that too

I really didn't anticipate anything topping Richard Edwards this year, but the more I listen to Science Fiction, the more likely that scenario is becoming.

I had a similar moment yesterday. My new boss came by my department while I was playing this over my speaker, Batter Up was on. I thought he was going to tell me to turn it down or off but he just got excited and asked who it was. He had never heard of Brand New but he thought it was beautiful. He stood there for a good minute listening beforw we talked business. It's the little moments that make me love music so much.

  13. Yeah this is probably in my top 3 and I have the benefit of hearing albums that are releasing later that could have contended and this is better than them for sure. The only albums that might contend with it for AOTY are National and Converge

I am looking forward to both. I was able to get tickets for the National show in Philly that NPR will broadcast

    For me it goes:

    Cloud Nothings
    Kendrick
    Mastodon
    Slowdive
    Vince
    Brand New

Might change once I spend more time with Science Fiction

I know it's only been 2 days but it's hard for me to imagine a scenario where this isn't my AOTY. Julien Baker has a chance, but that's really it. I really, really love this album.

It would be cool for her to shock us all and do it, but maybe all of these albums are just so close it's hard to pick

Since it was originally intended to be Brent's solo album, I'm definitely expecting a good dose of weirdness. Maybe some psychedelic and country influences?

Less than a week now. Have you listened to the leak? I've resisted thus far. I'm also super stoked for new Foo Fighters, especially since Homme himself said it was a weird album.
