You really should just drop this now. The only one being hostile or defensive or angry is you. I understand why you took the original posts the way you did and some of the first quotes totally out of context did make it look like the lyric was approving that view, but literally everyone discussing it had already confirmed it was from someone else's perespective before your posts. No one is attacking Jesse or the band for saying that a particular line will be hard to hear for them personally, and coming out swinging against the gay man sharing his opinion doesn't paint you as the hardcore LGBT ally you claim to be.

I understood the line on the first listen, the story behind the song is not the reason for my reaction. This wouldn’t have become anything if that dude asked me about it like “why do you think it sucks?” or “why did you have that reaction?” rather than jumping on the defensive with a condescending tone.

It seemed like initially he was just trying to offer context the way Jason and one other person did, but he took it way too far in arguing that it shouldn't be uncomfortable to hear and somehow inferring that people had called the band homophobic

you can't slap an "it's art" argument on something and then go on to invalidate someone else's feelings about it.

 

He's like, flaunting it as an "ah-ha! Gotcha" thing and it's really uncomfortable.

Just because there is context behind the line does not make it immune to people still feeling uncomfortable hearing it.

Okay. I regret that it looks like I "came out swinging." I guess the tone I intended didn't come across very well. And then that guy was a jerk to me, so I took the gloves off. But I just really hate seeing something get taken out of context like that. People's "drama!" radar started beeping immediately but it was for no reason at all.

I just don't know how defending something that is anti-homophobe makes me a homophobe as some people seem to be implying. Someone just compared me to Trump. That's something worth being defensive about. Sorry for my tone. But I can be fiercely pro-gay and also think what a gay person did was wrong.
