When I listen or watch to people discussing this show, I feel like I did not remember any of it. I didn't even realize the girl they find in the woods was from an earlier episode.

Same here haha I was like "who is this girl with all those stab wounds? weird." I didn't realize it was her until this morning.

    lol that's great.

but really, it can't just be me who doesn't hate James?? Like, he's definitely not one of my favorite characters but I've always been pretty indifferent to him, and that whole Evelyn subplot, while kind of pointless from an objective standpoint, never bothered me either.

Hey, I thought I was the only one, I like James. Well, as I've mentioned before, I like James in conjunction with Donna. There is something about their relationship that is so classic. The way they interact with one another and are so blindly in love reminds me of something you'd see out of a movie from the 40's.

I am not good at this week to week viewing. Binge watching ruined me for it, I supposed. I am probably going to start from the beginning again, including Fire Walk With Me, so it all makes sense.

Yeah same here. Wouldn't doubt that was the whole point, either. I mean, yeah James was mopey and a little too serious about himself but...isn't that kind of what a lot high schoolers are like? ha. I don't know. That's just how I've always read it. And yes, while we're on the subject, I do enjoy the song too haha. I actually love how schmaltzy it sounds and that that's James' voice lol.

I don't know, I'm not really the type of fan to leap to his defense every time fans dog on him because yeah, it is kind of funny. But at the same time? It almost feels like hating James is just something fans do because they're "supposed" to, like it's built into the fandom and culture around the show. If that makes sense?

But anyway, in the spirit of good fun, here's something I stole from tumblr

I think the James hate is more of a meme than anything else. I do agree with the general consensus that the Evelyn subplot kind of sucks, but it's not the worst thing ever. I enjoy how melodramatic him and Donna are, I mean, that's clearly the point. Also, Donna was an angel and I miss her.

Haha, right. Honestly, I love all of Twin Peaks, I'm such a fanboy lol. Everyone always talks about season 2 in general being a decline for the show and while I can see where they're coming from (especially, yes, the Evelyn thing) I've never felt that way at all. Shrug.

I wonder if Donna is gonna be mentioned at all this season. Unless she has in passing and I just missed it? I know Laura Flynn Boyle declined to take part but it'd be interesting if her character was at least mentioned. Or...showed by being portrayed by someone else...again. Ha.

It would be funny if they got the actress who portrayed her in FWWM haha. Though, to be honest, it's young Laura Flynn Boyle I'm in love with, not Donna.

Are the Missing Pieces considered canon? I own the box set, but it's the only thing in the Twin Peaks universe I have yet to see.

I remember watching it and finding them to be helpful in understanding certain scenes of FWWM. There is a LOT of material cut from the movie.

They separate the Jeffries and convenience store scene for easier viewing, and then extend the Jeffries scene to show him appear in Buenos Aires (shouts out to the bell hop who shits his pants upon seeing him reappear in thin air). There's some more of Laura and finding out who Bob is, the ceiling fan, and a happy scene with the Palmer family around the dinner table. The scene with Laura and Donna at the Hayward residence is extended with appearances from the Hayward fam. There's a fight scene between Desmond and Sheriff Cable to win over Teresa Banks' body. I can't remember what else... but there's definitely more. You get most of the original cast members who didn't appear in the final version.

I would say there isn't anything absolutely essential to the Missing Pieces, but it opens up the world a little more. I would suggest watching them if you're as obsessed as I am haha.

I have seen Fire Walk With Me twice, but both times I always regarded it as an ending and did not pick up on things that have suddenly become vital to know. Of everything, I have to revisit that the most.

One of my favorite Twin Peaks moments is in FWWM when a strange woman enters a trailer Agent Desmond and Carl are in. She looks injured and terrified, and in retrospect resembles one of the Woodsmen and leaves the two of them stunned in their places. When she leaves, Carl's fingers are trembling, we see the utility pole appear again, and Carl stammers as he admits to Agent Desmond, "I've already gone places. I just want to stay where I am." There's something strangely beautiful about this moment that I can't wrap my head around. Is he having a premonition?

Still haven't seen FWWM at all.

Ive seen a couple people around here say it's their overall favorite Lynch.

I like Lynch a lot but I honestly had a really really hard time following all the characters and subplots (and primary plot for that matter really) of the original Twin Peaks series. My understanding of the universe is probably pretty scant. it's only been 2 years or so since I watched it.

I don't think any other show has close to that many characters or things going on. And this is even before you start to consider the typical Lynch non sequitors, possessed by something characters, and otherwise weird or bi polar character motives going on in this crazy series.

I think I could name a few. The number of characters in GoT is staggering, same with Sopranos. Most long-running dramas have loooooots of characters. But yeah, I'd definitely say the number of characters in this show is pretty large especially considering the multiple identities, doppelgangers, etc... It's a world you get invested in, though, and admittedly has a huge cult following willing to put in that effort.

Yeah I love every minute of it but I just mean I often feel like I'm not a good viewer with the material. Like I'm failing it sometimes with my unableness to keep it straight or forgetfulness.

Game of Thrones feels like it has way less charactes than Twin Peaks. Could be misremembering that too tho lol

Game of thrones is easier to keep up with because the plot is a lot more straightforward and you can also group the characters into the different houses. Twin peaks has so many small roles that you can miss if you blink (the roadhouse people, the beings of the lodge, etc)

I don't necessarily agree, but someone referred to all the random vignettes of Twin Peaks residents as this season's version of Invitation to Love, which I thought was interesting, albeit not entirely accurate imo.

    Count me in.

Haha I never thought of it that way. I can see where they're coming from though. I still feel like they're just glimpses into the current generation of teenagers/young adults living in Twin Peaks and how their lives parallel the dramatic secrecy of their parents.

Although, them mentioning a "Billy" in the most recent ones has me thinking they're gonna maybe add up to something bigger.

Unfortunately they deleted it, for what reason I do not know, but somebody took the scene where they find Naido in the woods and sped it up by 430% (as per the Giant's clue) and you can clearly make out an opera song.
