Well first off most states with the worst opioid epidemic actually have stringent prescribing/PMP check laws. Second information is only good if you can access it; most PMPs don't have access to real time data. Third, if you look at the two major categories of prescription drug misuse it's in teens and then middle aged white people. The former is mostly due to pull parties. The later is in part due to JC scores (HCAPHS also predates the ACA but whatever). Pain as the fifth vital sign has a LOT to do with prescribers behavior. When most of the current docs trained they learned that pain management was a primary condition and that opioids were safe and non-addicting. Now that we have the right information, people are adjusting. The problem is without adequate rehab treatment options people turn to her ion. Just look at OH, TN, Ky, or Wa. All states with significant requirements for health care providers and all have seen an uptick in deaths.

If it were simple it wouldn't be a problem.

Where are you getting your information from in regards to states with the worst opioid problems having the stringest laws in regards to checking the PMP? And yes, that is part of the problem but having real time information is useless if you're not required to use it (Oklahoma). I think it's definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. Here's the breakdown of states' PMP's reporting requirements/timelines:

    Real Time – 3 states
    Daily – 19 states + D.C.
    72 Hours – 5 states
    Weekly – 20 states
    Monthly – 1 state

However, over 30% of states do not require prescribers to check their state PMP at all. It gets worse when you look at it closer since the majority of the other states only require it being checked under certain circumstances (such as Oklahoma requiring it be checked once every 6 months). It's also absurd that only 40% of states have laws requiring prescribers to see patients for a physical assessment in person before prescribing CDS. Over-prescribing and improper prescribing are the biggest issues to me since it allows for these drugs to be more readily available and more readily abused.

What part of healthcare do you work in (if you don't mind me asking)? Why do you feel that the blame should be placed more on the drug manufacturers?

  6. You still have the opportunity to cast votes for senate, congress, etc. - taking advantage of that while not casting a vote for Hillary or whoever the GOP nominates is better than not showing up at all.

This is a divisive issue but if people have absolutely zero support for HRC, they shouldn't feel forced to vote for her just to keep a republican from winning.

No it isn't. If nothing else, it shows a record of clear dissatisfaction with the two party nomination process. If you didn't vote, it wouldn't be recorded.

Compared to the way the Dems have treated people like Joe Sestak, considering Bernie hasn't been a member of the Democratic party for more than a year, he hasn't gotten it too bad from them lol.

But yeah...Dems are idiots for not embracing his platform.

Voted for Bernie just now. Felt so good pushing the button for a candidate I actually like in a national election. Haven't done that since Obama in 08.

So last night, online Clinton supporters, inferrably the ones her super pac has spent a cool million to cultivate, took down a large number of Sanders supporter groups on Facebook by posting pornography, some of pedophilic nature.

Per The Hill (can't paste in here for some reason)

Or, there was a bug and not everything that happens is a conspiracy to take Bernie Sanders down

There are screenshots of the reports that took two down. I can't show since I'm on mobile, but there were shots of the "has been taken down" message posted to that Clinton group.

  21. Fair point. I'd like to see how many other groups were taken down yesterday. I can see how some blogs would take this story and run with it. The screen shots from that article are what they are, though. Generally upsetting to see people doing that regardless if the two situations are related.

Yikes, the exit polls aren't looking well for Bernie, guess we'll have to wait and see. But it worries me that only 10% of voters today are younger than 30, while in primaries to date they made up 17%. Also in Maryland, there are actually more black voters than white voters, and also 1/3 of voters identify as moderate. And from the states I have seen, ages 45 and older are outnumbering under 45 voters about 65-35%

My predictions: Hillary wins Maryland 61-37%, Delaware 59-41%, Pennsylvania 55-43%, Connecticut 51-48%. Bernie wins Rhode Island 50-47%. Hopefully I am wrong and Bernie does a lot better than this but I'll set my expectations low and hope for the best.

Even though I've seen more signs/bumper stickers for Bernie in CT in the last several weeks and bigger turnouts at his speeches in the last week as reported on the news, I wouldn't be surprised if Hillary has a wider win margin for this state.

Also, since all of today's primaries are east coast, do polls close for every state at 8pm?
