Its in my top 3, and I hope I'm not setting you up for disappointment with high expectations but for me its absolutely in that same league.

Totally unrelated, but I never thought I'd see a Brandon Wheat Kings avatar on Chorus / AP.

I walked to the gas station around the corner from me last night to get something to drink and I played Home.. and I gotta echo the statements about how important that record is to me. I walked around until the album finished as the sun went down and it still hit me like it did the first time. I didn't listen to The Hotel Year much but when this came out I checked it out because of AP.net hype and was floored. The lyrics alone are incredibly personal and I relate to a lot of it but to me it's an important record because of the delivery. The way he sings/screams make it resonate that much more because you can tell how much he believes what he's saying/feels what he's saying. It's rare that a band makes me feel this way about their music lately so it's refreshing. Soft Animal is like an out of body experience too. Can't wait for the new record.

Lyrically I like "Soft Animal" but like, I dunno. I'm sure I'll love it in context of the record.

Also feel like Christian's vocals on the new songs are a little different but I can't identify how. They seem more...shakey? Not in a bad way though

I'm not too worried about expecting too much out of the record, honestly. I'm certainly not going to go into the record expecting to have a new favorite album, but the mere idea of that being a possibility is really driving my excitement. Above all else I'm excited to have an entire to bond with the record and see what it becomes for me, just like I did with Home.

I've already started forming a bond with these songs (granted I deleted the clips I'd stitched together) and I cant wait to see how the official release impacts me. INGO and Home have already formed a special place in my life, and I think Goodness will quite easily carve out its own place.

I think Soft Animal is the best song of the three I've heard from the record.

Thats such a thrilling prospect. I already feel attached to a record I haven't even heard yet, haha.

I think I can chime in here. I feel like I can say that The Hotelier isn't one of my favourite bands but I recognize them as being more "important" than all of my favourite bands. Home is just such a special album with everything from its subject matter, lyrics, even the music. It's weird now how when someone asks me for a recommendation I'll tell them to listen to Home instead of something by one of my favourite bands.

Hopefully that makes sense. Made sense in my head.

    AS much
Buried, and when he sings in his lower range he is a little bit more nasally. Which comes out a lot on here since he is lower more. Also I am pretty sure there is no vocal editing on this record at all (not sure about Home) but I wouldn't be surprised if this was recorded like The Early November's "The Room's too Cold" Where it was 2-3 vocal takes and done on every part, no vocal tuning needed. The harmonies are really in tune though so IDK, on TENs record the harmonies are a little out at times, which works there.

it's hard to put a band that has one good record out (IMO) as one of your favorite bands. I can't put them in my top 5 bc they don't fall into my rule of 4... for a band to be considered a top 5 they need to have 4 records that I absolutely love. I know that with goodness the Hotelier are marching their way up though, and wouldn't be surprised if they are there in a couple of years.

You're hard to please. It can take bands yeeeeears to put out 4 records. A lot of bands never get to 4 records. That's fair though.

It just seems fair, a lot of bands can put out one or two great records but it takes a real power house to do it 4 times.

Also brand new gets in bc I count the demos.. Even though I love your favorite weapon for what it is.

    Couple random thoughts:

    - the second verse of "Piano Player" is so much more beautiful after I finally fucking realized it's about a woman playing piano. Not sure how I didn't piece that together until literally right now. As a pianist mysef, the line "The entire room awash with the sustain" is especially powerful.

    - speaking of women, I love how so far, the only people referenced in the pre-release tracks have been women. I hope and get the feeling that trend will continue to some degree.

    - more of a question, but can anybody shine light on the "a soft and skittish self inside/shines golden, opal, chrysolite" portion of "Soft Animal?" I'm quite sure it's referring to the deer being shot, but googling those gems didn't really help me out.

    Got a light?

I only listened to the songs in full once, kind of glad they got removed so I can let in sink in when the proper release arrives. I agree with those feeling the spiritual connection to "Soft Animal", in the days leading up to it's release I randomly had it stuck in my head from the live session, even though I hadn't listened to it since around the time they played it. As I was thinking about how badly I wanted that specific song released, I saw the link and was really pumped when I realized that was the song they chose. When I read the lyrics, I felt even more connected to it, specifically the lines "make me believe that all my selves align" and "make me believe that there's a God sometimes", as both directly relate to experiences I have had as of late. The lyrics as a whole paint a picture in my head in a really interesting way. Can't wait to hear this.

I'm really enjoying Goodness Pt. 1, Soft Animals, and Piano Player... But because I haven't been able to really get into Home, I'm not sure if I want to go ahead and grab the vinyl of this before it's sold out.

You nailed it, it's maybe a bit more nasally for sure. Not sure how I feel about it. Doesn't really take away from the songs though

Home didn't hit me until after about 7 or 8 listens. I decided to sit down, no distractions, put my headphones on, pick up the lyric sheet, and just listen. It was amazing, and now I love that album so damn much. Give it a few more listens if you can. Also this album from what I have heard going through the clips sounds different from Home.

Another hesitation I have with buying it on vinyl is the album art. I actually really hate it. Haha.

When he sings up it isn't. Also songs like you in this light, two deliverences, sun, goodness pt 2, settle the scar, and pretty much everything else that hasn't been released he doesn't really sound different. For some reason the two singles are the more awkwardly mixed vocal tracks.
