The Ramones crafted some pretty perfect hooks, but that's about it. The Clash were the better band, I rarely listen to either aside from a few tracks.

I only compare as they kinda seemed like the "Big 3" of punk to me growing up

Oh yeah, Dead Kennedys were another favorite for me then too. Jello's voice was so unique and new to me, I got really into them

If I had to choose 3 artists that game changed my life like in terms of musical influence it'd probably be Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy, and Dead Kennedys. In terms of artists who managed to shape my taste the most and get me into other artists/genres from there during formative years.

DK are cool too. I also enjoy the Misfits and, fitting for this thread, find Saturday Night by the Newfits to be one of their better songs

Yeah I'd probably take Misfits over all of them

Jello has that "being chased by a garden hose" voice to me

Speaking of other punk related things I didn't pick up on as a 12 yr old, I once created a user name on a forum thing referencing Sham 69 except I didn't know the significance of the number 69 and I couldn't understand why creepy men kept messaging me gross things. I was so confuuuuused.

They had a big skinhead following too I think. Idk I just listened to a punk radio station as a dumbass middle school kid so I didn't pick up on a lot of what was going on outside the songs they played. I think i lightly researched the bands i liked back then but idek if i wouldve understood? Except Jello who I loved and wrote extensively about in my diary. I don't really follow him now so idk what he's up to aside from not doing reunions.

Misfits were definitely my favorite. They opened a lot of doors musically for me, I wouldn't have found a lot of what I listen to now if it wasn't for them. I'm still bummed I missed Riot Fest when Danzig played with them again.

never got into punk. i've probably heard 5 songs total between Dead Kennedys, Rancid, Misfits, Ramones, Sex Pistols, and other "similar" bands. their "look" never appealed to me and for songs that were politics based i didn't know what the fuck was being sung about so i didn't even bother listening.

maybe i'll make it my winter project to check out punk's history.

Always do the right thing. Supporter

I grew up on the Ramones and think they're largely brilliant and was so disappointed when I found out Johnny Ramone was a hardcore right wing asshole. After I got into blink-182 and Green Day I got into the Ramones and Descendents and found myself preferring older punk to most of blink and Green Day's peers. Dead Kennedys, the Clash, the Misfits, Henry Rollins-fronted Black Flag, Bad Brains, Bikini Kill, the Stooges, Fugazi, even Nirvana, I loved raw and energetic and angry and anti-conformist stuff. Lots of those formative punk bands are super problematic though, and fostered some harmful shit.

Yeah Johnny Ramone was a huge piece of shit and his relationship with Joey was terrible.

The Clash have "Lost In The Supermarket" and therefore are instantly superior to all other early punk bands

First 4 Ramones albums are non-stop bangers

Johnny was a total piece of shit, shouts to Joey for still getting "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" (their last classic) through

I still thank my aunt for getting me the Offspring - Smash cassette when I was younger. Probably the first proper record I ever listened to or owned. I played that tape into the dirt.
