Completely anecdotal but pretty much every Jewish person I know besides a few are pro Palestine and anti Israel

 

I never said she wasn't anti-Israel...but I don't think she's strongly "anti-Israel"..from what I gather I'm pretty sure she's a two state solutioner.

 

I know a lot of wealthy Jews who would rather Palestine and most Muslims simply not exist. Some of them are my bosses.

At this point in the discourse I would hope it wouldn't be necessary to explain that BDS = anti semtisim is absolute horse shit not to mention straight up dangerous but alas

It sounds like Gillibrand was saying there are pockets of people using the BDS movement for their own anti-semetic gain; that some have hijacked it to push anti-semitism. Doesn't read like equivocation to me, but I dunno.

I would need to see specific examples of that happening to not take it at face value because I hear that more than I see it actually happening, which makes me skeptical it isn't a narrative being pushed for other reasons

 

This is what I remember seeing/hearing about it.

 

A lot of people get made to feel a certain way over perfectly legitimate criticism of Israel which they have been taught to interpret as antisemitic. The idea that "the far left hates Jews" has some merit and evidence behind it, but too many people say that when they mean "the far left hates Israel." And honestly, if they are on a campus, I don't feel all that bad for them given the state of camp dialogue on the issue and the behavior of Hillel, Chabad, and any number organizations shilling for birthright or Israel in general.

Anyway, I don't have any reason to believe Gillibrand has any understanding of these nuances, or cares to. The way she uses the phrase "delegitimizing our ally" says this especially, as that is a phrase unique to this discourse and implies an antisemitic motive.

There is anti-Semitism within BDS, but it is not nearly as pervasive as some would say. You also have to remember that the entire movement is centered around a tactic, it's not like it is a centralized organization which can allow people to participate or not.

 

Plus people like Palin are pro Israel and anti-Semitic

 

I think some are afraid to say anything negative because it may send the message of exactly what you are referencing. Maybe some are uneducated but I think some are afraid of the backlash from zionists and people who believe that it is anti semitism. Also I think they realize they would be given support from that community, they're afraid to lose that.

Also I think gillebrand is definitely one of those people who's probably much more left than believed but stays closer to the center for the mula. She was definitely closer to the center years ago but it seems like she's slowly raised a lot of money on her own and has a lot more support but at one point her district was much more swingy.

It's also worth noting that young Jews are the most anti-Israel population in the country

I think I saw a survey after the election that like 85% of Jews voted dem or green. It makes sense that it's happening because wokeness and especially because bibs is corrupt as fuuuuuux and in the news a bunch so they don't have a face that's as trustworthy as past ones.

 

I don't really know what the solution is, besides being prepared, educated, and able to deal with that. There is no level of criticism of Israel that won't draw these accusations, so I don't see the point in trying to avoid them. All of the explicitly antizionist spaces I have been a part of have a healthy Jewish presence anyway.

 

You're not wrong, I think for them it's about calculating who is who and if it would make a big difference? You know what wusses Dems can be.

 

Jessica Byrd seems pretty good. I heard her on w.kamau bells pod and she seems prettt legit. I hope she keeps up the good work of getting more POC to run.
