For years a friend of mine has struggled with financial security, and we've tried to encourage him to apply for benefits during the worst of it, because he would 100% qualify, but he just can't bring himself to do it. The shame, the feeling of taking a handout (even if it's not). Hell, even the thought of maybe going to a food bank once in a while brings up those feelings too

 

i googled "promote islamophobia, get paid thousands" and got several articles from 2015/16

This is great, and something that I have had to swallow my pride on and explain to those in my life that voted for Trump. I've had many conversations explaining that if it weren't for food stamps, I couldn't have possibly fed my family 3 meals a day while starting my career. Without WIC, we couldn't have afforded the formula that my oldest had to have for his gastro issues, and without Medicaid, his ear surgeries wouldn't have been possible, and he'd be affected the rest of his life. 3/4 of my kids were born on Medicaid, which was a LIFE SAVER financially.

With my family/friends that know who I am at my core, my family, and what I stand for, it put in perspective how normal these issues are for so many families. To judge an entire class of people on their outliers is bad practice, but still the driving force behind their voting.
