But isn't someone who makes that kind of music (assuming they're doing it because it's what they genuinely want to do and not because they are already established as that kind of band and it's what their fanbase wants) inherently a fan of that music? So basically you can like this music, but only if you make it?

Fugazi's The Argument came out when their members were around their 40s. That may be stretching the punk definition too far though...

Killing Time is brilliant, and I like the two before that too. Everything else bores me other than the odd song.

No, not necessarily. Take an extreme example, you think Raffi is bumping his albums in the car?

You can make music aimed at a high school audience without liking it much, but that's also why most of the bands targeting that demographic are way on the younger side.

I disagree with most things you have said but this is 100% accurate and I've tried to tell certain members of this forum this on many occasions. It's fine to dislike it, but complaining that "pop punk sucks now" or "all the new pop punk bands suck" makes you seem like a really lame dad.

It's just not made for you, you're not supposed to like it. There are tons of bands doing post pop punk subgenres that exist exactly for the reason that you grow out of that sound

Exactly. Although I still like the new bands like State Champs and Neck Deep., I prefer different things now. I much prefer bands like Turnover or Citizen, that take that sound and do something a little different with it.

people seem to still be thinking of pop punk solely of the modern popular warped tour bands rather than bands outside that scene that still play pretty much pop punk music

I was super into the Clash when I was younger. Ramones just never appealed to me.

Clash and Ramones rule, I find the whole idea of the Sex Pistols to be utter trash

I won't tolerate this Ramones slander, comparing them to The Clash is unfair, they had completely different MOs

The Sex Pistols are the Spice Girls of punk and that's somehow not a compliment, plus Sid Vicious was just a dick

Oh they definitely did. The Clash just appealed to me more, I got bored with the Ramones, too many similar sounding songs.

Sex Pistols suck. Terrible band and some truly awful awful people on top of it.
