close your eyes until tomorrow Supporter

The only credit card I have is from my bank and usually after I pay off the bill, I leave it alone until I have to use it again.

isn't that like the whole point of credit cards, like they probably hate people like me who pay on full on time

I've never gotten a credit card, been thinking of getting one and just using it to pay for gas or something small just to build up some credit tho

I've been trying to listen to Matchbox Twenty's Yourself or Someone LIke You, but I can't get past Real World. It's too good to not endlessly repeat.

I once had a waitress from there open with, "Sorry if I seem a bit out of it, I did mushrooms this morning." Like, what?

Go for it. Especially if you're going to be paying it off frequently. You shouldn't have to pay much interest if you won't be making big purchases.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't want to give out shitty advice when it comes to credit.

Well the restraunt I work in pays us in cash (we used to be cash-only until only a few years ago lmao). Our managers have direct deposit but it's for some reason easier to give us cash so they do that. So I set aside some spending cash and deposit the rest in the bank. I other stuff I deposit and use my debit card (PNC has a pretty nice student/online banking service)

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

i mean it depends on the person and how much savings you have, but generally speaking if you spend money responsibly there's no downside to getting a (well-researched) card. I have the Amazon Visa and i get points to spend on Amazon purchases from all purchases at variable percentages. there are similar programs, some specifically for students, some built for travel, or gas, etc.

make sure your contract doesn't have shady fees (imo, don't get one with an annual fee, you shouldn't have to) and a reasonable pay-off timeline - when i get my bill for the month, i always make sure to pay it within a week - the deadline depends but there will be a specific point at which you start accruing interest - don't let it get to that point and don't pass your limit, cause that's where it will fuck you - there aren't any downsides that i've encountered. using credit cards safely is really more about how you think of your money. remember that where the credit companies make their money is from sticking it to people who pay back extra on interest, and be a spender who spends A) what they can afford to B) and pays back what they spend before it starts costing them.

sorry for the advice rant haha, my dad and mom are very conscientious spenders due to being a single-income family of nine, so this is stuff that i've taken to heart :-)

edit: worth mentioning that a lot of important purchases - loan services, mortgages, etc - have started requiring credit scores, so another benefit of having a credit card (and using it as discussed above) is building up that score.

Interest blows. And I have only myself to blame.

If you're responsible and good with money I say go for it. I am not which is why I paid mine off and will most likely never get one again.

I only get the 0% interest for x amount of month deals for big purchases like a new computer. Something that if I needed can pay off today but much rather show some sort of credit without paying anything extra (interest).

Same goes for my credit card. Its just to show lenders that I do have a credit history.

I'm looking forward to paying this one off and using it again, but modestly. I got a little carried away before. Nothing absurd, but it's taken a while to pay it off. Mostly finished.

I wanted to! I noticed him on the plane, and then I was even standing right next to him in baggage claim, but he was on the phone the whole time. He didn't seem cranky or anything.

@Henry may have experienced or heard something similar to this. I got a Star card for cheap gas and other things on military posts and didn't realize I signed up the credit card. So I once made a purchase with it and they didn't accept star card like they said they did. 3 months later I got a call from a collection agency asking why I hadn't paid this $9 charge that turned into about $50. Turns out there was a second bill that had to be accessed from a completely different site to pay off that part of the credit card. Paid it and never again did I use it.

oh a debit card that makes sense, I was thinking paying cash everywhere would be a pain and making shopping online basically impossible

Thankfully, I got one for uniforms, and paid it off the same day. Cut it up that day too.
