It took about four and a half months to happen for the first song, which was The Moth, but once we got there with that song we had added this weird Casio piano guitar, as well as this acoustic so we blended them together and it gave everything this certain feeling that we had been searching for. That was when we started jumping up and down, and that was when I was like “well shit, we know that it’s possible to do that, we just have to do it 10 more times.” We just didn’t want things to sound standard rock. We wanted to sound really huge but we didn’t want it all to sound like anything we had done before as far as the bigness went. We recorded ‘The Moth’ live several different times, and the first version of it could definitely have been on ‘Cope.’ We just went into our comfort zone where everything should land. So, we peeled everything back and said “No we want it to sound like a bank heist or some shit. We want it to be like someone robbing a bank and running through the night”.

I'm quite pleased that my favourite three songs from the record have made it to the last three! I've voted The Grocery for elimination this round but it's tough. I just think the opener and closer are a different level for this band.

The title for this album was mentioned recently on a podcast...I think it was honestly "There is nothing you've got, when you die, that you keep"

They always have these working titles that are reaaaally long.

I think Dustin Kensrue told Andy it should be A Black Mile after hearing The Gold.

P.S. The recent interviews have lead me to believe they may play 5 or 6 songs from the new album rather than the typical 4 or so.

I thought EMO stood for Eggs Make Omelettes? Whatever the case, it's true.

I'd happily see that/prefer that. I've not enjoyed a collection of songs from them like this since ILAVLAC.

This has been an interesting year for me because The Menzingers and Manchester Orchestra were two bands that I just never could seem to get into; yet both bands now have albums easily in my Top 5, maybe Top 3, for the year. After The Party and Black Mile came out of nowhere and got me into these bands like nothing else they've put out so far has! I give most of the chorus.fm folks credit because I probably would have overlooked both of them had they not received the near universal praise they've received here. So, thanks everyone!

I mean I loved that song before I even remembered his daughter's name is Mayzie. Just makes it so much better.

I listened to this so much the first 8 days I had it that I finally have given it a rest for the past few days. Not that I got sick of it or anything, but wanted to go away from it for a few days so I start really longing for it again.

I did that the last two days – though I caught myself singing parts of most of the songs at one point or another – and finally put it on again this morning. My daughter was really into "The Moth".

It felt like they weren't on the same page to start. Rob seems confused.

Just seemed like he was watching his chord progression. Didn't seem like he was confused. With no drummer, he's following Andy's lead for the pace of the song
