They are and it hits even harder once you learn the beat patterns where they hit after every chorus!

One beat after the first chorus
Right into it after the second chorus
And two beats after the third chorus

The parts is such a cool song the verses were really just one chord with a suspension added occasionally and the chorus is just one chord as well, extremely simple considering how complicated the rest of the record is.

    The Wolf

    Lead, SD
    The Gold
    The Mistake

i hesitate to call this their masterpiece bc, idk, who knows, maybe the next album will improbably be even better somehow, but i had HIGH expectations for this and it exceeded them on every level. way to knock it out of the park on album no. 5. what a good band

I just don't know how it's possible to top this album.. my only thought is they could maybe equal it with something completely different

@Bo Joiner I could be wrong but I think someone said there's time travel going on in here, so, lol, I guess that could explain the discrepancy

Time travel? Is this a new genre of music we're talking about now? Sci-fi rock?

Yea that's a cool little bridge, I love the second half of the second chorus too where the guitars come in and the drums move to eighth notes on the high hat and accents the occasional off beats

Honestly that sort of fits this record doesn't it? Alien, levitation in the wolf, time travel

Is it like actual time travel like Doctor Who or just that the song itself travels through time and tells multiple stories happening at different times? Like I think the alien is a metaphorical thing, I don't think there's actually a green man in here.

If you play this album backwards, you can hear Nate Ruess.

    Talk about sci-fi

As a grocery store employee I think " high like me" is just talking about weed. I don't think many people go to work tripping. At least not compared to the number of people who smoke on thier breaks.

honestly i thought about it as him just being bullied, like he was just weird and foreign and so thats what the kids are calling whoever they are talking about in the song.

Yeah that's what I mean. Seems like his dad cut his ears so he looked funny and got picked on, I don't get a supernatural vibe from that song.
