great, now i want to redo my list with bcr now

 

Tom spoke about it in his Ernie Ball documentary last year ("The Pursuit of Tone")

 

i think he mentions it a few times in this documentary, but here's one mention of it.

 

Yeah just pretty sure I heard that after the HMNIM podcast with John so I'm wondering when this method of describing it was brought up. Literally never heard it before last year but now it's like "THE WAY" to describe blink. Kinda cheapens it to me. cc/ @bradsonemanband

 

I remember Tom describing the band like that in 2014, lemme find a source

 

I think it's just another way of saying "catchy simple melodies." Just melodies that are simple and easily get lodged into your brain.

We still doing that non-blink/bcr Tom list? I'd go with:

This is all just off the top of my head, no real thought put into it.

 

I'm late but only just now seeing this but who is he to dictate and set rules and "navigate" them into what he thinks they should sound like and make sweeping assumptions about what blink fans want to hear? And saying you want to "navigate them forward" while pigeon holing them into "fun nostalgia sing-along band" is such a contradiction. Obviously there's always the chance they work with him again and they actually surprise us with a great progression, but when he's telling people he's dead set on what he exclusively thinks they should sound like instead of what the possibilities are in moving forward, there's not a lot of room for optimism unless the band themselves really double down on wanting to move more in the direction of pushing the envelope.

 

oh shit, was it no blink AND BCR? I'll revise my list. That'll keep it shorter. BCR is all up on my list. lol

 

Agreed. We can only hope Mark sticks to his guns about the experimental progression of the next album
