I've read Bene will play outside and I'd imagine Boykin would play nickel but with Norman gone he could move outside. Just depends on which vet they bring off the streets or if they draft a guy in round one.

Cromartie is a possibility due to his link to Rivera.

 

Isn't Tillman still technically on the team?

 

If I remember correctly they didn't retain him.

 

I would hope so since I can't imagine them going into next year with McClain starting. They always seem to pick up someone around training camp/pre-season so I guess we'll have to wait.

Well, I guess if he was overpaid is a matter of opinion, but the real details of the contract argue against that I think, especially compared to what less talented players have been getting.

Either way, this was entirely a Scot move. 'Skins haven't been doing the crazy free agent spending for like 7 years and this wasn't even remotely close to what they used to do.

 

Just about any blockbuster free agent is gonna be "overpaid"

I would say I feel bad for him but he did get a ton of money out of it.

For the Panthers, sure. For Norman...got him to a situation where he got $20mil more guaranteed than the franchise tag and where he most likely gets $50mil over 3 years (he'd have to be a big bust to get cut in 2018 for that $9mil cap hit).

He'd have had to play out two years on the franchise tag to match that (and take the injury risk), and basically force a 3rd franchise tag to match the deal.

If anything, I'd say its a new front agents should push. Teams are hurting the player by tagging them; agents job is to push back and either force free agency for his client, or get him a massive deal.
