I'm convinced this is why they're so crazy popular. In an era where everyone knows everything about everyone, we all know NOTHING about this band.

    And we dig it.

It's that aura of mystery we all cling to.

We reach for the longest shadow

what if the Brand New album is just covers of all the Bob's Burgers songs?

I think they could do a good re imagining of Coal Mine.

I think that Brand New loves their fans, but get creeped out by then quite a bit.

I remember an interview as far back as YFW-era in which they spoke about a fan who met them at a Taco Bell who was underwhelmed and kind of disappointed, he asked them, "so this is what you guys do when you're not playing music?"

And I recall another one where they said a fan somehow made it into their bus or backstage or something and saw them just hanging out and watching baseball. They said the fan seemed shocked that they weren't back there slitting their wrists or something.

I feel like that's why they don't share too much. I don't think they're being "artsy" or teasing us, I think they just want to live their lives.

Tl;dr i vaguely remember things from interviews that happened over a decade ago and refuse to find links

I do recall the story about the fan seeing them watching baseball or playing video games or something and expecting them to be all sad or whatever.

What's funny is, I definitely remember around the time Deja came out, Jesse was quoted as saying 'We want to be the biggest band in the world" on the cover issue of Alternative Press. So something must have happened in the following few years where they were like 'fuck this, I just want a normal life'

Maybe the TDAG leaks really took a lot out of them. I know they commented on how deflating that was for them around the release of that album.

I once heard that one of the three that aren't Jesse were seeing or married to a woman that either works at a shop in my town, or she actually owns her own shop here. It's a big weekender town for a lot of people from NYC/Long Island area so it would make sense. Found it out through a friend of a friend while discussing Brand New. Said they recognized him while they were in the store and both of them were nice. Don't know the validity of it or any of their spouses so I never looked into it. If one of them walked in my shop I would probably shart.

I talked to Brand New for like 5 seconds once before a show. Ran into them early afternoon. It was near the venue, I was lined up early. Had my cousin hold our spot in line well I went to go poop. I walked out of the subway I did my business in and the whole band was standing outside about to go into some Vietnamese restaurant next door. I was wearing a brand new shirt and they saw me, all I said was "hey guys how's it going? I'm really excited for tonight", and they all smiled and responded and whatever.

I don't regret just keeping the interaction simple. I like to think they appreciated it or something haha

Oddly/fittingly enough with this conversation, 5 years ago tonight I actually met Jesse for the first time, despite hitting up BN shows since 2002. Caught wind of a friends and family breast cancer benefit show at a bar on Long Island. Was able to get in and was right on stage (even rested my beer on it) and got to see him and his brother play a mix of songs.

I've met a crap ton of famous people on the streets in my life, both super quick interactions (a head nod to Dave Chappelle) and long ones (a legit conversation at night with Philip Seymour Hoffman in Washington Square Park, RIP), but I've never been that nervous to talk to someone. Sounds lame in retrospect, but just told him that my mom was a breast cancer survivor and that the benefit show meant a lot as did Brand New's music in general. Also showed him my Brand New tattoo. Unforgettable night.

*opens another non-Brand New debate in this thread*

Not that I care anymore because I'm 28—and never really cared to begin with—but never understood people who insisted beer pong was the correct term over beirut. Former has paddles. Other uses hands. Case closed.
