  2. Gettleman let Smitty and Delo go and both guys were extremely offended by the moves. Both players were also very close with Richardson. He cares about the "family atmosphere". Gettleman comes in and says screw that it's time to move on. The same thing was about to happen with Olsen and Davis. And both guys are very close with Richardson. He wasn't gonna let it happen again.

Just look at the players Gettleman cut and their reactions. They were used to getting their way before Gettleman and got their feelings hurt when he came in. Now they get to celebrate.

  4. I've been saying this is Gettleman's last season if we finish below .500 but this is stupid. I wish Richardson would sell the team.

    The rivalry is back on

Weird timing, especially with this being the second fairly successful team to fire a GM this summer

Richardson is okay in my book since he was the only one who wanted Hardy gone.

I also just don't think the Panthers are that good.

  8. That's why Gettleman was on the hot seat anyways. But the timing makes it obvious it had to do with his style handling veteran players.

They could either make the Super Bowl or be 7-9

I would've literally done the same thing gettleman did, paying long term contracts for guys who are over the hill or will be by the second half of their deals is not good. Drafting and keeping josh Norman were definitely his Achilles heels. Being controlled by an owner is one of the worst things in an organization and makes teams dysfunctional.

  16. I hated the Norman move but Smitty and Delo had to go. But like I said, these guys were used to getting the whatever they wanted before Gman arrived.

I wonder if the Giants would take him back, Reese is awful.

Norman had to go too. Can't demand PP money without PP performance.

  19. But at least keep him under the tag. We had 14m tied up during the entire free agency process for no reason. Who cares if he was going to leave after the tag season? Use him for one more season while the rookies develop. Or just don't tag him at all and use the 14m in free agency

That's very true. They could've done that much at least.

I can understand letting Norman walk THIS YEAR, but doing it while you still had him under contract was dumb. You can't let one of your best players walk for nothing like that when you have such a small window of competing for a championship. It hurts even more because he did well with getting James Bradberry in the draft & the team would have had a nice 1-2 corner setup if they kept Norman last year. There's also doing nothing about the obvious offensive line problems, keeping Shula despite being a horrible fit and expecting the offense to get by with a terrible receiving corps. I know they went 15-1 with it one year, but it wasn't sustainable.

Doing it this late in the off-season because he won't re-sign declining vets is silly, though. I actually haven't hated most of his recent moves except for that stupid Kalil contract.

  22. I mostly agree with this but I think he gets too much ridicule for the OL problems. He did bring in Turner and Norwell who have been great. As far as the tackle spots, he hasn't really been in a position to draft one. We picked at the end of the first a few years in a row and then this past draft when we finally had a nice pick the OL class was below average. And in free agency there hasn't been too many realistic options. Oher actually ended up being a solid signing too.

As far as Shula, Gettleman has said many times he leaves the coaching staff decisions up to Rivera. So Shula staying is on Rivera. Although, all of that still ultimately falls on Gettleman for not taking charge.

True, and getting a good tackle in the draft is usually a longshot because most don't make the jump to the NFL. He's in a weird spot with Rivera. I thought the coaching staff needed a shake-up after the playoff 7-9 year because the offense was a mess. Feel like it's been that way except for 2015-16.

  24. The Panthers have been doing a Game of Thrones theme in the build up to training camp. The Gettleman news is perfect for it.
