Went to an Andrew McMahon secret show instead of this today and I'm really okay with my decision.

79 in Detroit, AM showers and partly cloudy the rest of the day.
84 in Tinley Park, partly cloudy all day.

    Let's keep it that way.

As someone who just put on dry clothes for the first time in over 12 hours, you did the right thing. Out of curiousity, where was the McMahon show?

The Edge did a hidden happy hour with him at The Terrrace at Delaware Park! It was really packed but I can't really complain about a free Andrew show.

Some frustrating conflicts in Darien Lake yesterday. War On Women/Stick To your Guns and Anti Flag/Hands Like Houses/Boston Manor/Silverstein all playing at the same time.

Yeah that 2nd set of conflicts was the only big one for me but it was huge. Ended up watching the first 3 songs of Anti-Flag in the amp before heading out to see Silverstein. Caught Boston Manor playing Cu on my way to monster and caught most of Silverstein, just missed the first bit of Retrograde. Everything else was manageable with little overlap. The only other one I missed that I would've liked to see was Too Close To Touch but they started between Courage My Love and I Prevail so I opted to just do the later two. I'm not terribly upset about missing them though.

So my date was two days ago in Mansfield, I had an amazing time, I saw so many bands, but I have an issue. My ears are still ringing, usually it goes away by the next morning, but I still hear it. I think its because the main stages were in the amphitheater and the amount of amps was more then regular shows there. Any advice?

Buy earplugs for next time. Not much you can do now.

Awesome! Given doors are at 1230, what time were you thinking about getting there? I'm thinking about getting there for 1115 or 1130.

As odd as this sounds, put your first and middle finger's knuckles in both of your nostrils and blow out your nose. The air gets blocked going outwards and then attempts to go out your ears. For whatever reason, I get rid of the ringing a lot quicker by doing that ever so often.

Yeah I'm shooting to get there around 11. I live about 30-40 minutes away so I was thinking about leaving at 10:30

I've never had a problem with traffic all the years I have gone. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself

    Newbie

Now that I'm sore, blistered, sunburnt and partially stained with fake blood, I should recount my first date.

At first I thought it was going to be a nightmare with the rain. Right as I was about to get out of my car, my phone got a notification of a flash flood warning. I stood under the volunteer tent for a solid 30 minutes waiting for the rain to die down. Once it did, I went to stand in the early entrance line, only to have the rain pick right back up again. However, once the rain stopped and I got my schedule, I had an awesome time. I saw a shit ton of bands.

    1) Creeper: Pretty solid, although I'm surprised they didn't play Black Rain. I think they only played one song off the new album, and it was a slow song.

    2) Silent Planet: Got kicked in the side of the temple after 2 seconds in the pit, but other that, great as always. I do think their show is a bit more catered for smaller crowds though. It seemed like Garrett had a harder time connecting to the crowd as a whole, as opposed to the 30 people who crowded the front when he got on the barricade, if that makes any sense.

    3) After The Burial: Pretty typical metalcore set. I respect how they didn't replace their late guitarist and still sample his parts as if he were still a member.

    4) Courage My Love: Meh. Wish they would've played at least one older song.

    5) Stick To Your Guns: One of the most solid sets of the day. The singer sounded amazing and every riff crushed me like a ton of bricks.

    6) Carnifex: The crowd was surprisingly small, but they still brought it as they always do. It seemed like they were a bit out of sync with each other at certain parts, but it didn't take away from the show at all.

    7) The Ataris: Pretty fun set. There were 4 beach balls and the band kept kicking the balls back into the audience. Had to leave during the last song to make it to...

    8) Alestorm: Easily the most fun set of the day. I'll take dance pits over moshpits anyday.

    9) Silverstein: Pretty much the same show they played in 2015 except for playing Ghost, they even covered the same American Nightmare song. I still enjoy it though, I'll see them every time they come.

    10) Beartooth: Pure nonstop brutality from beginning to end. Mospits and crowsurfers for miles. The fact that they are able to get a mainstage crowd to move their ass is beyond impressive.

    11) Street Dogs: Extremely entertaining. Tons of crowd interaction. Made me kind of wish I was a punk-rocker in the early 2000s.

    12) The Acacia Strain: Watched from a distance, I didn't want to step anywhere near that pit of furious windmills. They sounded solid as hell though.

    13) Hatebreed: There was a guy with a wheelchair in the pit, so they couldn't go too crazy with the moshing, but once it got a little crazier they did a circle pit around the soundbooth. Not a bad set.

    14) Gwar: I'm still blue.

    15) Counterparts: Surprisingly brutal. The crowd went pretty batshit even though it was 8:30 at night.

    16) Futuristic: Saw him while waiting for Memphis May Fire. Mildly entertaining at best.

    17) Memphis May Fire: Missed the first song because of a schedule mix up. Matty sounds great. Quite a lot of crowdsurfers too.

Wow, good for you! I'm hoping it continues for you. Every year I went, I'd be stuck either 1/2 or a mile away from the Parkway North exit. It doesn't help that most of these people don't pay attention when they're driving and the people doing traffic aren't the smartest. I usually just tell them I'm press and they let me through. I usually just park in the woods and walk up.

This. Don't wanna sound like an old man but I'd definitely recommend everyone to wear ear plugs at concerts especially with how frequent a lot of people on these boards go to shows. I believe I was 19 and about 70 shows in when I realized I had tinnitus. I often find myself saying "what?" To someone because I didnt understand them the first time because it sounded like mumbling due to tinnitus. My idea of pitch silence has been a ringing noise in my ears for at least 7 years now.

I'm used to it by now and its nowhere near as annoying as it used to be but, if I could I go back I'd definitely put earplugs on sooner than I did.

I've been wearing earplugs to shows for probably 5 years now because I was noticing a difference in my hearing (not to mention the insane migraines I used to get after every show). No more ringing and I can actually hear what they're saying into the mics.
