Yeah it's games like this that make others look terrible in terms of storytelling. I'd say another strong candidate is Bioshock 1 and Infinite. Original and they avoid the stereotypical story arches or cliches.

Yeah, sometimes it's best not to make friends online with coworkers...unless of course they play A LOT more than you do! lol

What a wonderful surprise getting the Mirrors Edge beta code for XB1. I was super disappointed when I read that it's being pushed back until June, but at least I have it now for 5 days or whatever it is.

I'm a huge fan of the original and I'd say it's one of my favorite games of all time. I don't know what it is, but I played the shit out of the first one. I was addicted to making perfect fluid runs. It's the only game I've ever enjoyed time trials.

Anyways here are my thoughts of the new one after about 2 hours:

Cons - The graphics aren't much of a step up from the 2008 (?) original. For example the advertisements are a bit blurry, character models aren't crisp and sometimes they are dark, almost like a silhouette. These both might be temporary shortcomings because it's the beta.

    - The city seems empty. There are some people on the rooftops, some guys training to be runners, others just chilling probably used later in the game. But looking down at the streets there aren't many cars driving/floating around, so it seems quiet for such a huge futuristic city. I would also imagine that if this was the future there would be ads absolutely everywhere, not so in the game.

    - The runners echo that shows you where to go. I find this element takes away from the fun of finding your own path. I believe you can turn it off later in the game though

-You aren't able to use original abilities like quick turn, or quick roll after a fall. You have to unlock them, took about a mission each to unlock one.

Pros - the "open world" ability to run around and do what you want. I read that it's not a true open world, but it feels like it. The map is large and it seems like you can get to any location you really want to.

-Even though it was annoying that I couldn't use RB for quick turn until I unlocked it, I think it'll be fun to collect bags, documents and whatever in order to improve Faith's skills instead of having everything unlocked from the start.

    - Seems like time trials will be cool because people can create them and when you want to do one you find it on the map and you can look at the "real-time" leaderboards. This makes it quicker to access then having to choose from a menu and load the trial like the original.

    - I think the fighting system is WAY better. X is quick attack that you can string together with heavy attack (Y). You have more control though. Like if you press left on the joystick and Y, you'll kick the dude to the left. Or if you run off a wall, or jump down from somewhere you're attacks are stronger and you can make a better combo. The game also says that you need to change up your fighting moves or they won't land anymore. For example x,x,x will work at first during an encounter, but not after that until you use other varying methods.

-Avoiding bad guys is encouraged as well and you can use x to quickly shove them or bounce off them when trying to do a quick run.

    - The RT has you run a bit faster and makes your runs more fluid. It's also used to quick dodge when fight. RT and back you jump back, RT left you dodge left. Helps a ton when fighting and makes you feel a lot quicker.

It seems like the story is more of an element for this one, but I can't tell if it'll be any good. Going to take a break but I plan on playing a lot more before the beta ends on Tuesday.

This is how I think I'd be. I tried the first and couldn't get past the tutorial but this one peaks my interest and I'm willing to give it a shot.

Bioshock 1, Infinite, the Mass Effect trilogy, Flower, and Journey are high watermarks in video game narrative story, in addition to Red Dead Redemption and the Last of Us.

I think the Uncharted games deserve to be in that discussion too. They're not quite the serious/dramatic stuff the others are, but for the kind of pulpy action-adventure story they tell, they're unbelievably well told.

Wasn't a fan of the older Killzone games and I'm afraid this one is basically the same. Such a confusing game.

  13. Played UC2 for the first time like last month and I was blown away how much it holds up. Really incredible game.

I think the third one is really great too, and gets a lot of unnecessary criticism. A large amount of which unfairly gets thrown at it for little more than not being as perfect as UC2, which is probably a top 5 game of last generation.

The official Persona site seemed to have fucked up and posted the countdown announcement early, Persona 5 in Japan on PS4 and PC on July 8th.

I really enjoyed all of the Uncharted games, but storywise I think it's very predictable and cliche. They are made like a movie, and in that respect they are great when comparing to other video games. But in originality, they play out like a typical action movie.

Metro Redux is both Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. Metro 2033 Redux is just Metro 2033
