Thank you for the literal answer to my question.

Too lazy to insert the Robert Downey Jr. rolling his eyes picture, but pretend it's here.

  3. Listen to the entire album to, at the very least, look at how the band started and where they began with their sound and to build a context for where they have gone since then. The foundations set in that album, by very young songwriters, are still being seen in their latest work.

And, it's got some great songs on it that hit highs that plenty of bands have never reached.

  5. I think when all is said and done, the new album will be. But METN is probably my favorite given how much time I've had with it over the years.

Haha sorry everyone! I don't really know why I've never gotten to it. I started at Simple Math because I had a friend who was in love with them at that time, and then I went back to METN, but just never got around to it. But rest assured it's near the top of my priority listening. I'll for sure get to it before Black Mile comes out.

I am so stoked for this album.

If it is really about Andy's relationship with his daughter, being a dad myself of a daughter who is only a few days older than Mayzie, it's going to hit me in all the feels.

Oh man, that's got me really excited for this one (as if I wasn't already)

They're missing somewhere between 1 and 5 of their best songs.

I used to love it and it's what hooked me on Manchester but I hardly ever get back to it now.

ILAV is probably my second favorite MO record. Honestly, depending on the day or my mood, I can make the argument that any one of their first three records is their best.

ILAV is great even if I don't think it's their best. It's probably my second favorite record by them, though.

  18. ILAVLAC is objectively a fantastic record. "How so?" you might ask. Well...it got a 5.1 from mid-2000s P4K. No further explanation needed.

jasons review of METN is still one of my fav reviews from this site/ap and is the reason i got into ManOrch.

METN will always be my favorite for personal reasons but ILAV is no slouch. at this point the band hasnt released a bad or even mediocre album imo.

I'm not as high on ILAV as most, but it's still worth anyone's time to listen. Some of my fav MO songs

  21. My favorite part of Pitchfork's early reviews of this band was how METN went up by EXACTLY 0.01 relative to ILAV. Honestly that's more insulting than a lower score would have been. I seem to recall a lot of shitposting regarding that on the ap.net

The thing that bothered me the most about Pitchfork's reviews was their assertion that someone as young as Andy couldn't be that introspective and hasn't gone through enough in life to have these existential crises.

Also, currently listening to the encore podcast on the album

There is definitely good to great song writing on ILAV but I would just much rather listen to live videos of those songs on YouTube than actually listen to ILAV. Where Have You Been sounds amazing live from what I've heard, same with Sleeper 1972 and some other songs. It's just the combination of Andy not finding his voice yet and production that just doesn't do these songs justice imo. Maybe if it was remastered or something.
