One example is that I've played various suites, medleys, etc. of music from West Side Story, and in the chorus of "America" the conductor will always alternate between 2 and 3, just because it makes sense to do so

i forgot how much i enjoyed the RAGC series. Andy does a really good job of making a storyline with a some good characters and also does a really really good job of making folk/rock songs that all have their own identity. The project couldve easily become homogeneous but Andy makes it work.

Makes sense. I totally forgot about playing a west side story medley in college and I can't remember for the life of me how that part was written out as far as time signatures lol.

So I am of the opinion that The Moth is the best of the three released so far. My friend who is also a die hard Manchester fan is super lukewarm on it. Says it is uninteresting and could be a cover. Says its repetitive. What are your guys thoughts on this?

A cover of who? Haha I don't think this song in particular is for everybody but I think when people hear the record everything will make more sense. I have some friends that love it and others that are meh, I think when people hear the gold into the moth into lead they will understand how this song fits in the puzzle.

I actually kind of like The Gold the most of all of them (love all three, though)

haha he couldn't explain that part to me. Just a cover in general. He says its just a super generic song. I'm over here giddy like the first time I heard Sowing Season and he is all "meh"

How does a new song sound like a cover?

How is a song with as many different dynamics as this one just "uninteresting"?

How is it repetitive when it repeats as much as any other song with a two verse/three chorus structure?

If he doesn't like the song that's fine. I just find it interesting when people try to back up their dislike of a song with blanket statements that just don't hold much water.

The Moth is my favorite of the 3, beating The Alien by a nose. I could see repetitive but not generic.

Lol. This is so relatable. That's one of those moments where you want to be upset with your friend but you know it's silly to be upset over differing opinions which is upsetting in and of itself.

Exactly! haha it took all more will power to be like "well ok I respect that, maybe you'll feel differently when you hear the whole album"

It's not my favorite. It will probably grow on me and will make more sense as part of the whole.

The different rhythm kind of throws me off and it almost feels like a gallop. The extra "noises" if you will make this and the other songs pretty different from the rest of their discography that was for the most part pretty straight forward.

Not at all a cover, or uninteresting, just very different. I'm sure I will come to love it like every other song. I already went from unsure to liking it.

I hate singles too bc they don't show the whole picture, I remember when hotelier released the piano player lol and people were really worried about goodness.

Structures for the other songs arnt as verse chorus verse chorus as the ones they have released, at least I don't remember them being as straight forward as this one is. It's a really good chorus though so I don't mind it repeating.

I haven't heard the album, but I would assume these three singles do a pretty solid job showing off the range that this album will have.

I'll admit, just based off one listen (which means nothing) The Moth has been my least favorite released thus far. I'm trying not to listen to these songs until the entire album comes out and typically most of my favorite songs/albums take many listens to either click or really grow on me. I do like The Moth, but as of now, it's my least favorite released from the album. I suspect that once the album is out and I listen to it a lot, it'll grow on me.

Piano Player was not an awful single choice cmon now. it sounds representative of what the album would be like.

The Alien isnt a bad single choice, its a good song, but its kinda odd without context since I'm fairly certain the song is about a literal alien or otherwordly creature that plays a part in the albums overall story. im starting to think the mine shaft is some sort of gateway or something a la Stranger Things and The UpsideDown

Want the album now, so I can join the discussion and so I can move on from bingeing their discography. I'm both ready to move on and can't stop spinning their records.

It's the epitome of a song that works better in the flow of the album. To me, it was incredibly dull out of context and I literally wasn't anticipating the album anymore after hearing it.
