I get tired of seeing the same bad arguments/comments over and over again. The ones that I feel like I've personally responded to and debunked/answered a few dozen times (and I've seen others do the same), and it's just exhausting to see the exact same bad arguments used over and over and over again. It feels like trying to plug a leaky boat with gum. It's why I rarely actually engage with the same tired arguments these days, I just get ... frustrated. I don't know any other word to use.

But, with the countless high-profile cases of abuse over the last 12 months where the victim was not believed, at all, the idea of a "99%" statistic being touted as fact is ... just head squeezingly frustrating.

 

Can we all calm the fuck down and stop going after each other.

I think anyone found guilty of abuse is a piece of shit that should be buried under the jail. Do I think this guy did it? Probably. Is their undeniable proof? No. Would I rather this guy not be at some of the shows? Absolutely. Do I think having a 5 page debate and tweet fest to a band that probably didn't make the choice to have them on the tour is beneficial? No.

Clearly this thread is being derailed. It would make more sense if this was on the actual Tour thread. Because this has nothing to do with the actual album.

But let's go ahead and get angry at each other.

 

I don't see anything wrong with discussing it, it's not like anyone's telling you you can't talk about the album. Furthermore, some people may not have known about this and talking about it in here (where it is clearly relevant) is a good way to spread awareness.

 

You are the only one here I read as less than "calm".

this thread gets a lot of traffic, its an important issue, this is a good way to spread awareness. if you want to keep babbling on about ebay sending you this album or w/e go ahead but dont try and act like we're being unreasonable in wanting to spread this word and inform those reading. so please, stop being so aggressive and hyperbolic

Hey it's a super important thing to discuss. I believe you are the only one here who isn't calm. The only person who wasn't "calm" when responding to you only did so when you called discussing abuse "irrelevant" in this thread. And yeah, can't blame them for that. There will be more than enough time to discuss the album, but for now, why are you getting so bent out of shape over people discussing this important issue?

And yeah, it's likely that any tweets to the band won't do anything, but that doesn't mean it's bad to try.

 

I don't even think that I want to know what I've missed in here.

 

my hope is that either conor or andy will see a tweet and maybe pitch it to booking or management. but at the very least the more people we can get aware about this horrible situation the better.

I’ve had years of experience of this in the legal system. Don’t understand the emoji. If you would like to talk I would be happy to discuss this via DMs or otherwise.

 

Very worrying that someone with "years of legal experience" can be that hyperbolic and not get the facts right

 

I also was just speaking generally as I do not know this case. But I’ve had dozens of people that were proven to be liars who “pressed” domestic abuse charges because of ulterior motives (the other party won’t get back together with them, the other party refuses to provide higer maintenance, etc.). They claim to be victims when they are the actual perpetrators. And to Sophos, I deal with the legal system every day, probably the same one you deal with if you live in the US.

 

As I said, I was speaking generally, not to the facts of this case.

 

I don't have any real desire to discuss this with someone that claims 99% of the time victims are believed while there are daily stories of rapists and abusers walking free. I don't have the energy for this nonsense.

 

I wasn’t trying to act authoritative on this individual case, just trying to be helpful on why one hypothetically could have to go through domestic abuse classes when innocent.

Domestic battery was what I was referring to. I never said rape and would prefer not to have that idea extrapolated to mean such. I’ve never had a single case where I’ve dealt with rape in a situation even close to this.
