I know the weekend has passed, but I didn't think to check Hollie Horror's lists until just now, and sure enough...

In the Dark, Dark Wood

 

I'm watching Parents (1989) for the first time.

 

It's embarrasaing to say, especially because I watched so much more disturbigg stuff back then, but Seed of Chucky is one of only two movies to get under my skin and made me fucking cry when I thought about it. I watched the whole movie and had a damn good time and wasn't scared at all, but in the months after I was traumatized. SEED of Chucky

 

Chucky freaked me out as a young kid, but by the time i actually watched it it was kind of tame and a little crass. so fun enough for a watch but not indispensable horror for me.

I'm watching the rob zombie Halloween which I don't like but my grandma has never seen it and wants to.

I worked with a kid obsessed with chucky. He was 4 and would say he wanted me to take him to chucky's house so chucky could kill him. Hands down one of the weirdest conversations I've had with a parent lol. Now it's all I think about when chucky is brought up.

 

"Hell House LLC" is on amazon prime, the lady friend and I just watched it now - sunny middle of the day to get out of the sun for a bit - and that was goddamn gooooooood and spooky in this setting! A great way to spend 90 minutes.

Found footage film of folks who set up a haunted house that goes wrong on opening night and footage shows creepy shit happening during the production. Kind of filled with jump scares but more like "oh shot did that thing move from the last scene two seconds ago or no?!?!?" And if you have a deal with clowns this may be too fucking much.

Really enjoyed it.

 

Beyond The Gates was a fun movie. The practical gore effects were a good time.

I know most of them are bad and genre is played out but man do I love me some found footage films.

Maybe because friends and I recorded everything / adventures on huge 30 pound fucking VCR-sized camcorders that only had a half hour of battery life and then took a week to charge (seriously, people today with their easy as shit to film iPhones have no idea how brutal film was back in the day) but something about the films and how they play out and how most do a decent job of capturing stupid real life shit that "standard" horror film formulas don't have time to follow will always engage and amuse me and pull me in

 

Was stoked to see The Blackcoat's Daughter at my local rental place, but I gotta say, I was pretty disappointed. I usually love A24, and I suppose the tone fit, but this one felt like a whole lot of style over substance. Pretty uneventful even by my standards (and I'm someone who loves a good slowburner) and I didn't think the payoff was anything revelatory or worthwhile. None of the characters were particularly likable (not sure if that was the point or not) and I wasn't a fan of their use of silence or score, but then when the characters has monologues, they felt drawn out and unnecessary. Idk.

I just don't know about this one. It's not often that I dislike something like this, especially this much, and I feel like there's something there, so I suppose I'll let it sit with me and try revisiting it in the future.

 

23 minutes into Evil Things and this shit should be on Mystery Science Theater 3000. This is absolutely awful in so many ways. Might be the first "found footage" film I truly hate. Impressively bad on so many levels that it's at least entertaining.

 

Hell yes...Adaptation of one of the best modern horror stories. I've said it a lot in the book thread, Adam Nevill is the best person writing horror right now.

Land of the Dead and the Dawn of the Dead remake are getting the Scream Factory treatment, can't wait. @irthesteve, can you give us any hints about special features? ;)

When the hell are you guys gonna secure those rights for the Child's Play sequels? lol I know it's inevitable!

 

let's just put it this way, we're ALWAYS trying and trying again for all the most requested titles. It literally takes years sometimes, we just released something this year that took 7 years to secure the rights to. So if we ever put them out, it could be anytime from now until forever. Or we might never, hah. It's a crazy world

 

Never say never...look what you guys did with the Halloween films. I'm still shocked you guys pulled that one off!

 

Yeah that deal was pretty crazy, I'd love to see us team up with another label like that and put our minds together to create something
