There are people who obsess over only early blink. Though there may not be a ton on this forum. But M+M's rules, so I am glad it is beating WW.

M+M's may be a good song and it may take this round, but it will not survive battle much longer. Wishing Well is a great song, it just wasn't prepared.

I wonder if anyone pretends Flyswatter is good.

I knew a dude in high school who's favorite album was fuckin Buddha somehow and he hated anything post-Dude Ranch

Yeah if anyone tells me they like that and/or "have been listening since Flyswatter" just means you're either lying or went to high school with them.

 

I call these type of people 'hipster elitists'. The ones who say anything after dude ranch sucks or pales in comparison, and have their favorite album as Cheshire/Buddah. Don't get me wrong, a couple great songs on those (Carousel/M+Ms/Wasting Time), and Dude Ranch is great when they started really putting out quality work...but come on now.

 

I can see people who prefer a rawer sound and who liked Buddha/Cheshire/DR not vibing with the super slick and polished poppiness of the next two albums.

 

I think it would be weird to prefer sound over the actual song writing.

Like, sure, we all have preferences with tone and production and such. But to prefer the clearly inferior songs just because of production? That's so weird.

The songwriting got poppier, too. If someone really digs Naked Raygun and the Descendents and Bad Religion and Cheshire/Dude Ranch blink, there's a marked shift in tone and style and sound that moved away from that slightly punkier, faster, rawer stuff. I don't feel that way, I love TOYPAJ and untitled and Dude Ranch, but I can see why someone would prefer the older sound and don't think there's anything wrong with that.

 

I understand where you're coming from but even if you just prefer the rawer sound I don't understand how you'd prefer Buddha over Dude Ranch lol

 

I must have missed that, that's not a stance I'm attempting to defend. Though people preferring one record over another doesn't really personally offend me.
