Whoa. Best opener is "I Should Live in Salt", which is also their best song. Imo.

 

I'm a wee bit drunk but I just listened to TWFM and this is definitely one of a few records I'd throw in as my favorites ever

 

I honestly cannot pick between Fake Empire, Terrible Love, and I Should Live in Salt. Like, I decide one in my head and then I hate myself for it. I love them equally.

 

This band is better at closers than openers imo. All their closers are very good, but I feel like besides fake empire and terrible love their openers never correctly set the tones for the rest of the album

 

Reverse that for me

 

Hard To Find is the best closer written by any band, so it's definitely the best by The National.

 

Yeah TWFM is my favorite album and the 1-2 punch of Pink Rabbits and Hard To Find kills me.

 

I think my favorite opener Alligator-TWFM is I Should Live In Salt, and my favorite closer is probably Vanderlyle.

TWFM remains my favorite by them. I'm still admittedly working on getting into Alligator, and I need to hear everything that came before it as well.

I started with High Violet. They're all my favorite. Except self-titled and Sad Songs.

 

guitar tones are fantastic, the drum parts are super interesting and the bass grooves.. I love how low and subdued the vocals are and how they convey emotion through a lower octave rather than needing to go higher like most singers.

 

Alligator was my favorite for a long time. I think now it's looking something like:

Bloodbuzz to Vanderlyle is such a good run that the entire front half of the album could be 15 minutes of Owen Wilson saying "wow" and it's still a phenomenal album.

 

I'm really really excited to hear your reactions to their other albums too. Which were your stand out tracks on Alligator?

 

Honestly I don't know any of the tracks or titles I just listened to it one time without paying attention to much of that.

these lyrics hit me like really no other song in the history of music

 

Yeah this might be my favorite part of any National song, and also my favorite song this band has made.

 

My hottest take on this band - Pink Rabbits isn't even the best piano driven song on that album.

 

Just reading this gave me third degree burns

 

Slipped may be their most underrated song.
