Really great read.

This one really stuck out to me:

“There was definitely a push and pull in the band when we were with him for the last couple of albums, where we would have a cool, fun, straight-to-the-point song and then he would propose a three minute intro to it. We would try to come up with an idea of how to say, ‘We don’t love the three-minute intro’ without hurting his feelings."

I honestly think that is why I liked the last AVA EP so much - no three minute intros. For the most part, the songs just kick right in.

So it's been a while since we've mentioned it at all in this thread... How's California deluxe holding up?

 

I almost never return to it and forget it exists sometimes, to be honest.

 

I still really like it, Long Lost Feelings is one of my favorites from the California-era.

I think you're missing the bigger part of this by not questioning the statement that blink is great again.

 

I think the biggest take away from that article is they are still in the process of finalizing their deal with Tom to remove him from the "blink corporation". Everything else we really knew already.

As far as the Deluxe version of California, yeah it's kind of there for me. I really haven't gone back to it since the first week it was released. There are some songs that I really love like LLF and Misery but overall yeah it just feels like B sides and filler. Glad they decided to release it as a deluxe edition instead of saving those songs for a new album as it would have been a let down for me.

 

This implies that they were ever great.

yeah that article re-used a lot of quotes we'd already seen and certainly thinks a lot higher of California than I do. Great again? One of the most important bands in rock? pump the brakes a little bit.

 

"in the form of their lives"? "arguably even surpassing their glory days"? "straight up fucking great rock band"? chill a little bit
