thanks cam. it was such a sudden 180 from her. she has apologized and said she wouldn't be that way but am i supposed to trust that it's just a switch she can turn off? is she just going to bottle it up and blow up again? she was literally keeping score against a six year old. the whole thing just killed my trust in her.

It's really early for me to start worrying about this (we're not official yet but hopefully soon) but I've just started worrying about what's appropriate when dating with kids. Worrying is what I do best

 

If she's directing all of the resentment she has towards your daughter at you, then that is workable if you've got the patience and desire. If she is directing it at your daughter, then you have every right to be stern and put your foot down as to what will not fly. She has no place making your daughter feel uncomfortable or less welcome.

 

appropriate how? like when she can meet aeryn? wait until you're comfortable with it. don't force it.

 

it has all been directed at me. they haven't met. either way, trying to make me feel bad about spending time with my daughter won't fly. if she was directly shitty to Soph it would already be over haha.

I don't plan on letting her (or anyone else I date) meet her until we've been together for several months at least, but I'm worried about setting a good example for Aeryn after that point. Like when does it become appropriate for her to be around on a daily/consistent basis? Sleeping over? Really not something I should be worried about at this point but it just occurred to me

but really though, it's different for everyone. i was kinda of the same mind that it would be at least 3-6 months before anyone would meet soph, and that's only if i was comfortable with it at that time. the other stuff you kinda have to feel out when you get to that point. how is your kid responding to this new person being around, etc.

I used to be wayyy on the "no one with kids ever" side but I've flipped completely. Being a single mom(or parent in general) speaks so much to that person's character and strength that it's instant bonus points if the attraction/interest is there. I really don't overthink people's pasts. Plus, while I love kids, I want to skip to the part where they're 5 or 6 so win-win if it got serious lol

 

Literally my exact logic. I hate being around infants and toddlers. But I love kids once they're smart enough to hold a conversation, and have imaginations, and understand how to play games you teach them. Lol. I'll put my weed away for a weekend to hang out with a girlfriend's 6 year old, and have a blast doing it.

Also I would honestly rather adopt, or help parent someone already alive, than bring another person into the world just to add to overpopulation/deforestation and face the consequences of global warming

 

Yeah I don't want to deal with diapers and little kids are boring before they develop speech and personality

 

I don't want kids at any point so they're a dealbreaker for me. If I'm older and their child is grown then that's another story.

 

I feel like I'm too young and not in the correct place to try and date someone with a child. I've personally never wanted kids, so it would be a tough time trying to date someone who has one.

Yeah, this was exactly how my ex was. I have a really close group of 5 friends that made all the effort in the world to have her come hang out but she blew them off, and even got into really bad fights with them for the pettiest of things.

 

This text conversation went less than well lol. I made my issues very clear and just got "I'm sorry" "I'm sorry" "I'm sorry", and then "Want to do something Friday night?". Legitimately like she didn't even read what I said.

 

Idk if I want kids so I don't know if it would be fair to date someone who has them. I love kids and think they're the best and I genuinely enjoy being around them, but i can't be around them all the time.
