The majority of people just use the Star of D. the same way christians use the cross, it doesn't necessarily mean they are zionists but because of its history there are several ways it can be interpreted. Most Nazis like it just as much as zionists but so do people in defiance of nazis as well, which is why interpretation can be confusing. I believe hamsa is like the Star of D, without the baggage and it is also something muslims use as well but I don't think it's the same. What other symbol should they wear on necklaces and such if not the star? Also sorry if this seems redundant or poorly written, I don't think that well early.

I'm willing to bet, the average person (even the average Jewish person) doesn't make this connection. Is ignorance an excuse? No, but calls of Zionism are still so strongly associated with anti-semitism. That's because Zionists use that association in their favor, because we're hyper sensitive about how anything adjacent to Judaism is discussed, and because unfortunately a lot of anti-semites muck up the message by disguising their antisemitism as anti-zionism. I have no problem with people wearing or using he symbol in other ways. The symbol itself is not zionist and I do think the average person thinks "Jewish" before "Israel" when they see someone wearing it (to the extent that those things aren't the same in their mind, which for many they are unfortunately). I don't think this is like, a major front on the fight against Zionism or anything, it's only a discussion because people wanted to bring Israeli pride flags to march. The hamsa is cool, I think it's more of an Arab symbol in general than a religious one but I'm not sure.
