this is what its like when a whole state cries. this is the worst. i was listening to local radio and they had a reporter at paisley park (his estate) and once news broke she started crying on the radio. terrible.

 

Wow RIP. Never really got around to listening to him at all but my parents have a couple of his records I'll spin back home next week

 

This. So tragic for both of them, as they were both pioneers. May they rest easy.

I saw him live once in 2004, and it was a phenomenal show. Such a big loss.

So much regret I never got to see him live. What a fucking artist, this is just awful. RIP.

Plus lemmy died a few days before the first day of 2016. Music has taken a huge hit.

 

My first exposure to Prince was through his contributions to Tim Burton's 1989 masterpiece, Batman. As I wasn't born yet when the film first released, and was quite young when I first saw it, I didn't grasp at all the kind of insane artistry Prince exhibited even when writing a 9-track album to accompany a superhero blockbuster. And that isn't even close to his best work. As I grew older and dug into Prince's output, however, I eventually came to understand it. The way Prince pushed rock music forward by incorporating elements of so many disparate genres, from funk to soul to pop, was nothing short of revelatory. The fact that he had been doing it for almost 40 years is all the more extraordinary.

I'll never forget the impact Prince had on my youth, both through helping to enhance my love for film and for introducing me to new and exciting styles of music. RIP.
