I was excited for Life, but once it hit theaters and I heard so much talk of it being a poor Alien rip-off, I decided to wait until it came out on DVD. I just watched it, and I can say that despite cribbing Alien so much, it was still a better horror movie than the actual Alien movie that came out this year

 

yeah Life just didn't seem like it had any new ideas to bring to the table (A:C either haha) so it's just not something i feel compelled to watch

 

I heard it was pretty good

 

I was talking with a friend today about horror sub-genres. We ended up wondering why there's only one great (or even really good) shark movie. Jaws is not only the premiere shark movie, but it's considered one of the greatest movies in general. We have so many crappy SyFy channel shark movies, and I think it's because we gave up on the idea that something like Jaws could happen again. Jaws 2 is a big step down and the other sequels are even shittier. Deep Blue Sea isn't aging well, although I do understand why it's considered a fun watch. The newest films "The Shallows" and "47 Meters Down" are watchable but extremely mediocre and the CGI just isn't quite right. Do we need a Jurassic Park type mix of animatronic and CGI?

 

Tbh I find most shark movies just the same. Or maybe it's just that the movies I've seen (not counting Jaws) don't really do anything interesting with the concept. Idk. Stuck at sea. There is a shark. Must outsmart the shark. Eventually outsmarts the shark. I guess I just find it boring usually.

 

I've been waiting forever for a good sea creature/horror film to do Jaws justice.

 

The Shallows was ok

 

Steven Seagull in The Shallows bumps it up from the mediocre tier for me tbh.

 

I liked The Shallows pretty well. I hear 47 Meters Down is pretty bad, which sucks because I'm here for Mandy Moore

 

Watching The Stuff tonight

 

Watching Get Out finally. It's so good thus far.

 

Deep Blue Sea is forever one of my favorite cheesy movies and I have no shame in admitting that.

I work at a movie theatre and upstairs we have room filled with old movie posters and I need this. Like, look how ridiculous this poster is. Her boobs are massive, short skirt, she's deepthroating a cone...it's terrible haha!

 

One of the first movies I ever remember stumbling upon on cable in the late hours of the night. I can only remember about one scene and I'll likely never watch it again but I still consider it a movie I love

 

THE STUFF! Omg...haven't seen that in years.

 

I just watched Life a few nights ago and I was pretty satisfied with it. I'd give it a shot.
